Etienne Capoue

Arsenal are ready to reignite their interest in Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue and are preparing a £12m January bid, according to talkSPORT.

Gunners fans endured another summer of upheaval at the Emirates with the signings of Santi Cazorla, Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski counteracted by the loss of striker Robin van Persie to Manchester United and midfielder Alex Song to Barcelona.

Boss Arsene Wenger suggested that he would sign a replacement for Song before the summer transfer window closed, with Capoue one of several names linked. But no new midfielder was signed before the August 31st deadline with Wenger seemingly happy with his midfield options.

However, talkSPORT claim Wenger is still hoping to land the impressive 24-year-old defensive midfielder and is ready to submit a bid of around £12m when the January window opens.

Capoue has become one of the most highly-rated midfielders in Ligue 1 after a string of fine displays at the heart of the Toulouse midfield.

His performances have also earned him a call-up to the French national side and he was on the scoresheet during Tuesday’s 3-1 World Cup qualifying win over Belarus.
