Liverpool get back to Premier League action after a two week international break as they travel north to face Sunderland on Saturday evening.

Both sides are yet to record a league victory so far this season. Sunderland started the new campaign with a well earned 0-0 draw away at Arsenal and followed that up with a 2-2 draw with Swansea.

Brendan Rodgers will be looking to kick start Liverpool’s season after a disappointing start to life at Anfield having picked up just one point from his opening three games.

The Reds opened with a 3-0 loss at West Brom and were held by champions Manchester City 2-2 at Anfield the following week before being beaten 2-0 at home to Arsenal last time out, so the merseysiders will be keen to get back on track at the Stadium of Light.

Team News

Martin O’Neill is sweating on the fitness of winger Adam Johnson who returned injured from international duty with England. The 25-year-old missed both World Cup qualifiers with Moldova and Ukraine with a thigh complaint but is expected to start after training on Friday.

Jose Enrique will face a late test on his knee injury but is expected to be passed fit. Joe Allen is also likely to feature despite being struck down by illness during the week.

Youngster Raheem Sterling should continue on the left side after him impressive start to the season while Stewart Downing may come in for Fabio Borini who has struggled to make an impact in his first three games.
