[Player Ratings] Arsenal 3-1 West Ham: Cazorla Different Class

By on October 7, 2012

Arsenal put in an impressive display as they beat London rivals West Ham 3-1 at Upton Park on Saturday evening. Here are player ratings for Arsene Wengers men from our resident Arsenal fan ‘Lloyd the Gooner’:

Santi-Cazorla

Mannone 5. Not good enough. Simples.

Jenkinson 6. The inevitable weaker performance after a string of eye catching games. He along with Aaron Ramsey arguably at fault for the first goal.

Mertesacker 7. Carroll was a constant problem but Per didn’t make it easy for him. It would have been an even bigger problem without the big German.

Vermaelen 6. Steady but the defence doesn’t fill you with confidence and he is at the moment one of the reasons why.

Gibbs 6. Quieter than of late.

Arteta 7. Like most of the midfield had a dodgy spell around the middle of this game. As with the others, though, he was good enough to get a second wind and ensure late dominance. How intelligent is he as a footballer?

Ramsey 7. The writer’s indecision is final! Certainly when it comes to this player. At times he looks like a one paced, square –passing waste of a place. Then you see that he has skill, power and an incisive pass in him. Against West Ham we saw mostly the good bits. However, badly at fault for the West Ham goal.

Cazorla 9. Great goal. I mean really great goal! Which is his weaker foot? When he gave the eyes for the late pass to Giroud three Hammers defenders ended up in Green Street!

Podolski 7. Lively apart from during the teams’s collective ‘dip’. The cross for the first goal was top class.

Giroud 7. Take a bow Gooners! We have shown patience and warmed to the big man and hopefully the reward for that is coming. Great poacher’s finish at the Boleyn and a very good assist. His height was useful at set pieces too.

Gervinho 5. Oh dear! Head up Gerv’ you’ve done your bit recently. Just a word of advice if you go on holiday tell the manager so he can pick somebody else!

Subs

Santos 6. Did well and always adds something in attack.

Walcott 7. A really fine finish that simply reinforces the view that we have a Michael Owen type forward rather than a winger in Theo. Slowly Theo is getting stronger and shrewder in his play. Once again what a great finish!

Koscielny. Who knows a break might be just what he needs.

    Oh Lloyd!
    What’s occurrin’?
These scores are a bit harsh.
Though I give you that the defence was not totally reassuring and the Irons might have had two.
That said the territorial and possession stats give credibility to the score.
    Genuine.

      PS
If Gervinho was on holiday as you helpfully pointed out, who was that guy up font on the right? Maybe he was only going on his holidays and was worried he would miss his plane. in which case this would apply to a number of players off on international duty/ holiday.
Maybe that’s the rationale behind today’s ratings.
Was at a wedding. Score came too late to put in my speech.

I have to say I disagree with you.
Yes he was at fault for the diame goal, but let’s be honest, ramsey is in no way an even mildly defensive players of any sort. Other then that blip though, he had a pretty good game, 84/93 pass completed and a strong part of the reason that our misfield dominated today.

The litle man’s wondrous goal deserved to win any match.I am happy the refs are finally taking action against the bully boys. Ten years ago the gunners wouldhave been seiously injured by the thugs.
Ramsey was sent sprawling to the ground and no penalty given. You can bet your house if it had taken place at Red Faced territory a spot kick would have been given. No questions.Btw Pardew hasasked the FA to punish one RVP for his elbow on a NU player. The FA will ask the ref and you can be 100% times 8 sure, Webb will probably say no action need be taken.
This shows the task facing MC/Chelsea/Arsenal tryng to winthe epl .
For that matter any team trying to beat RF is a 10% mission imposible.

    ‘THE ARSENAL ORCHESTRA’
Is conducted by none other then SANTI CARZOLA …. Le Conductor, who orchestrates the Symphony of Arsenal’s beat on the pitch with his deft touches in play where he pulls the strings of the Symphony Of Arsenal Football in total sync!
    A fabulous player to watch!

Don’t agree with ur assessment of Ramsey. Diame totally left Ramsey flatfooted with a brilliant piece of skill and Rambo couldn’t do anything about. If any other player was there, the same thing would have happened

Rambo was a total liability he deserves a 2.5. What do you call a footballer who can’t pass, think, tackle, defend or attack but can be all over the pitch. Sometimes we want the best for our players but if they can’t achieve that grade we have to let the go. He deserves to come as a sub not as a 1st team player. I think it writer like that are wrong advocating for Wenger to field Ramsey then blame the defense for the blunders of others. It was as if we were 10 & half players in the field forcing Podolski to assist Arteta on the defensive midfield work.I think we should loan or sell Rambo, so that players with actual talent be given an opportunity they deserve likes of Yennaris, Coquelin, Eastmond,Frimpong, AOC, Wilshere in that position not overrate players without vision. I said it but as a Writer mine is not final.

You are not describing Aaron Ramsey sir.
He is playing in an unfamiliar position.
He is a talented skilful thoughtful intelligent energetic member of OUR team.
The whole world apart from your kind self is aware of this.
      What a rant!

@Goonerboyo, I beg to disagree with you. The person you so eloquently and generously described can’t Aaron Ramsey. No, no, not all. May be you were referring to Arteta or some other person. Definitely not the Ramsey on display on Saturday. “…. talented, skillful, thoughtful, Intelligent, energetic”????? With that description most people would be thinking you were describing Carzola or Arteta or Podolski or ….. But, I am sure you get my drift.

What a silly comment to sell Rambo to give Yennaris, Coquelin and Eastmond a chance do me a favour. Ramsey will not stand in way of Wilshere progression if he comes back strong and Wenger has own plans for AOC and will bring him on steadily until he earns regular place but this has nothing to do with Ramsey. Please remember Ramsey is still quite young, has been asked to play so many different roles and has come back from a terrible injury. Ramsey is an average Arsenal player at the moment but he has quality and it will come through. Personally, I feel lucky to have all of Ramsey, Wilshere and AOC as the young starlets and future of our team. It is all about a having a strong squad and you want to sell Ramsey. Mind boggles!!! Did you seen his performances against City and in the Champs League?

        Exactly. Well said.
        Undoubted ability and quality.
His inconsistency is worrying but does not negate his talent.
Regular games in a consistent role will help, I agree.
        He is our boy.
We need some loyalty from these alleged fans
