Arsenal have received a double injury boost after both Jack Wilshere and Bacary Sagna played the full 90 minutes in a friendly against Chelsea on Wednesday afternoon at London Colney, according to Arsenal.com.

Wilshere has been out of action for over 14 months with an ankle injury but has returned to full training and taken part in under-21 fixtures this month. However, until now, he hadn’t completed a full game but showed his fitness is returning by getting 90 minutes under his belt this afternoon.

He was deployed in an advanced midfield role and showed glimpses of his old self and went close to getting on the score-sheet but saw a second-half low drive saved after a surging run into the box.

Like Wilshere, Sagna has endured a torrid time with injury over the past 12 months having suffered two broken legs but is also nearing a first team return after also coming through the game unscathed. The Frenchman played the first half at right back before moving into the centre after the break.

There was further good news with Emmanuel Frimpong also completing another 90 minutes as he pushes for a first team return after recovering from a serious knee injury sustained last season.

Chelsea, captained by John Terry in the first half, ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Billy Clifford and Islam Feruz but manager Arsene Wenger will concentrate on the positives taken from the game – namely the return to fitness of Wilshere and Sagna.
