Arsenal Dealt Fresh Double Injury Blow

Lukasz-Fabianski-Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been dealt a double injury blow with the news that goalkeepers Lukasz Fabianksi and Wojciech Szczesny have suffered set backs, according to the Daily Mail.

Second choice Fabianski has been on the sidelines since February with a series of shoulder injuries but was closing in on a first team return this month. However, the Polish stopper now faces a further three months out after rupturing ankle ligaments during training on Tuesday.

The blow has been compounded with the news that first choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is still three weeks away from recovering from his own ankle injury, despite hopes he would return sooner.

It means that boss Arsene Wenger will have to continue with 27-year-old Vito Mannone in goal as he heads in to an important stage of the season.

Italian Mannone began the season as third choice but has been keeping goal in the absence of Szczesny and Fabianski and will continue to do so as the Gunners face Norwich, Schalke, QPR and Tottenham in the coming weeks.

The goalkeeping injury crisis also means that youngsters Damian Martinez, 20, and James Shea, 21, will battle it out to play back up to Mannone.
