Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel has confirmed he’s considering calling it a day at the end of the season, according to the Mirror.

Friedel has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Premier League over the past decade and enjoyed spells at Liverpool, Blackburn and Aston Villa before joining Tottenham in 2011.

The American stopper recently saw his record run of 310 consecutive games come to an end and has France captain Hugo Lloris pushing him for a starting place at Spurs.

Friedel, who will be 42 in May, confirmed he may retire at the end of the current campaign and consider his options – which include becoming a coach or moving into a media role within football.

When asked about the chances of retiring at the end of the season, Friedel is quoted by the Mirror as saying:

“I’m definitely looking at all the possibilities for next season,”

Friedel’s contract runs out at the end of the season and it would be a big ask for the then 42-year-old to stay at White Hart Lane and battle with Lloris for a starting place.

Lloris, a £12m buy from Lyon in the summer, has already expressed his dissatisfaction at being considered as No.2 at Spurs and boss Andre Villas-Boas may use this year as a transition period for the Frenchman before handing him the No.1 shirt next year – which would leave Friedel out in the cold.
