Chelsea and Manchester United could miss out on youngster Lucas Digne with Real Madrid now favourites to land the Lille ace, according to talkSPORT.

The French left back has become one of Ligue 1’s most highly-rated defenders after breaking into the Lille first team squad last season.

The 19-year-old is now considered first choice under boss Rudi Garcia and has made an encouraging start to the new season during his twelve appearances so far.

Digne’s impressive form has alerted Chelsea and Manchester United with both Roberto Di Matteo and Sir Alex Ferguson keen on the youngster.

However, talkSPORT claim the Premier League duo could miss out on the talented defender after Real Madrid made their move to sign the teenager in January.

Jose Mourinho is currently facing something of an injury crisis at left back with both Marcelo and Fabio Coentrao currently out through injury, and the Portuguese boss wants to add to his defensive options in the New Year.

The report claims Madrid have already contacted Lille about the possibility of signing Digne when the window re-opens in January, stealing a march on their English rivals.
