Transfer News: Boss Rules Out Remy Move

By on October 26, 2012

Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Marseille rule out selling Loic Remy.

French striker Loic Remy

Marseille manager Elie Baup has ruled out selling striker Loic Remy in January amid reported interest from Chelsea and Tottenham, according to ESPN.

Remy has forged a reputation as being one of Ligue 1’s top strikers after an impressive two seasons at Marseille, where he has scored 20 goals in all competitions last term.

This form has lead to interest throughout Europe with Chelsea and Tottenham both strongly linked with a move in recent transfer windows, and the Premier League duo are expected to renew their interest when the transfer window re-opens this winter.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is keen to add to his attacking options as he will be left with only Jermaine Defoe when striker Emmanuel Adebayor heads off to the African Cup of Nations, while Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo is also on the look-out for a new striker to compete with the struggling Fernando Torres.

However, the Londoners have been told by Marseille boss Baup that the 25-year-old will not be sold this January:

“In my opinion, there is no question [of a sale], he is here for the whole season.”

“The club have always counted on him. Unfortunately, he suffered several small physical problems, but the troubles are behind him. A lot of things are happening at the moment and his form is vital for our results, which are more important.”

Baup is quoted as saying by ESPN

Remy missed this summers European championships with France due to a thigh injury, and the striker is still feeling the effects of the problem meaning he is yet to hit top form this campaign.
