Arsenal Player Ratings vs Man Utd

By on November 4, 2012

Arsenal were beaten 2-1 by Man Utd at Old Trafford on Saturday with former Gunners captain Robin van Persie opening the scoring inside three minutes. Patrice Evra made it 2-0 before Santi Cazorla pulled one back for the visitors in the final minute. Here are Arsenal player ratings by ‘Lloyd the Gooner’.

Andre Santos Arsenal

In the first half the team had no belief, very worrying. In the second we saw something of a performance, at least. The season is still young and things may well improve, stay calm and carry on.

Arsenal Ratings

Mannone 7. Did well. If ok is good enough he may be….ok! We will need a game changer to progress, a Seaman, a Lehman. Vito is not one of them yet.

Sagna 7. This player is disillusioned at Arsenal. His reaction when things go wrong are a dead giveaway. Next one out of the door Arsene, be warned.

Mertesacker 8. “Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am stuck in the middle with you.“ Ok Stealers Wheel got there first but Per has a point!

Vermaelen 5. Tommy next time you’re thinking of having a stinker try somewhere other than Old T. Mind you having seen Koscielny at Reading ?! Better luck next time Thomas. Seriously, I wonder if marking his big mate at Arsenal played on his mind. Unusually poor but has enough credit in the bank to escape too much criticism.

Santos 2. Wore the shirt, one mark. A couple of forward runs, another mark. Did you see anything else? If you think the mark is harsh you have sense of who we are , what we are and what we represent. We are Arsenal and Santos is not fit to wear the shirt of Hapgood, McNab, Sansom,Winterburn, etc, etc, Kieran get off that treatment table..NOW!

Arteta 7. Dedicated, serious pro doing his best. However, he is part of the imbalance in the side too. Not athletic or quick enough for the role, but hey that’s a bigger question.

Wilshere 5. Not helped by his manager in leaving him on when on a yellow card. That said, needs to grow up and not lunge in on opponents in frustration, this is not a first offence.

Cazorla 7. Lacked support around him. Not at his best either but with Jack and Diaby (or some other powerhouse if Abou can’t stay fit) he will be our midfield this season and next at least.

Ramsey 6. The Man City game was illusory. Without the drive of Diaby he cannot play in the position he did yesterday.

Giroud 5. Worst performance for the club so far. Previously supportive fans would have to have doubts after this. His whole game was off. But he had very few crosses to work with and as ever his attitude was good.

Podolski 4. On this showing Koln saw us coming, rubbed their hands with glee at the foolish money-bags Englanders and laughed all the way to the bank. Did so little I had forgotten he was playing until I remembered football was played with ELEVEN players.

Subs

Walcott. We will have to bite the striker bullet soon or get rid.

Arshavin. Is it a sign of desperation or that he really does appear rejuvenated that he now deserves some game time?

Have to feel for Giroud with the slow and loose service. How did Ramsey score so high, only just better than Santos.

He’s not RVP but this squad does him no favors with the poor service and inability to play off him as a target man. If English he would probably be in the starting 11 of the national team. As much an indictment of England’s strikeforce as Giroud’s talent, though.

I disagree with your Santos rating. Credit or no credit in the bank, Santos played a lot better than Vermaelen. He had a couple great interceptions that would otherwise have placed us greater danger.

Agreed. Santos probably shouldn’t be wearing the Arsenal shirt but his performance was no worse than that of TV5 or Ramsey.

    I agree with Silenstan’s comment,
how Ramsey get so high rating?

Did you know since Ramsey has been starting games this season we have scored more than 1 goal only once in the 8 games Rasmey has started in. (Vs West Ham)

Also the 5 Games that Rasmey did not start in this season we did not lose

Last season we lost more games when Ramsey started than when he didn’t

Isn’t there a growing trend here??

here is no point playing arshavin or theo if we don’t attack with pace.
Unfortunatley at the momaent we seem to wait until the opposition get all their players behind the bal before we start to stroll up the field.
The times we moved the ball quickly were too few and too late.
it’s not the first time this has happened this season or over the last few seasons.

Man Utd didn’t have to get out of 2nd
gear to beat a very poor Arsenal side,
i’ve seen better full backs in the Sunday league than Santos,he just doesn’t know how to defend, throughout
the game,Arsenal were a yard slower than
Utd: I carn’t criticize our strike force
because we havent got one, complete
    rubbish,Wenger said,when asked about his
signings he made to replace Van persie,
his reply was,it takes some time for
players to adjust into a new team,it didn’t take Van Persie long Asene,he’s
already leading goal scorer in the Prem: Wenger do us al a favour and walk away, then we can have a british manager. “N MORE FROG’S”.

While I agree that Wenger’s time is up, he deserves recognition for the revolution he has brought about at our club. He should be moved on or up to allow fresh thinking. There is a lot of dross to get rid off, now January is usually the time for sales with enormous reductions. If that doesn’t work, we could have an auction, Andre Santos, do I hear five pounds?
I wasn’t aware that Mr Wenger’s was an amphibian, leave the racism out mate, you could end up with Allardyce or ‘Arry.
Real Arsenal fans have no time for your racist sentiments, we are the original United Nations club pal. Allen les Rouges!!

according to the stats Santos is good, he wins majority of his 50/50s and his passing leads to opportunities

pretty much ne defender in the league will have trouble with Valencia

-i will agree he does stupid stuff sometimes and doesn’t track back enough

chk on Andre Satos’s OPTA stats

    — WTF is that Hassan dude on about ? ;p lolz

    Santos gets a 2 and Vermaelen a 5 and Ramsey a 6.

Incompetence doesn’t just exist among the Arsenal board. It’s also present among cheap Sunday morning Arsenal pundits.

    What a joke!

Vermaelen delivered one of the worst performances in the last 10 years by an Arsenal defender. It was an inexcusable display of dense, dismal, incompetence. Peopele seem to forget he coughed up another howler in the sencond right to RVP’s feet. Were it not for a Valencia miss, it would have been two absolute howlers in one match against United.

And that performance…that drek gets a 5 rating! The author is a jackass!!!

Calm down, we are all frustrated and angry. Lloyd didn’t pick the team, he offered some positives to prevent us slipping deeper into depression. Don’ t ever lose sight of how good these players have been at other times, Santos excepted, and start hoping we get the right selection, strategy and form simultaneously. We want our Arsenal back. Don’t chuck the baby out with the bath water. And smile smile smile!

Its obvious that u have it out for santos a 2 while ramsay and vermaelen got 5&6, yes he was poor but far better than both. Our team selection is to be questioned and something definitely wrong with the chemistry

Snatos and Vermallen were equally bad. Santos only managed to win the ball once. Ver not sure. I think its better to play Kos and push Ver to left back temperorary until Gibbs is back.
The midfield really miss Diaby’s drive. Without him, the centre is empty. Arteta and the defenders had tp play to ball sideways all the time. Cazorla had to track back and cannot support the striker, leaving a very big gap between the midfield and attack. Someone have to play that position, not Wilshire nor Ramsey. Unfortunately Diaby has very long recovery time.
We were awesome with Diaby atteta and Carzola, now the main peg is away we are very short.
In attack, Giruod is defintely not the answer. He is a big target man, om=nly suited for teams like Stoke. I presume the boss is trying to find the next Drogba; Adebayour, etc has coe and gone. There is no next Drogba in sight.
I feel he has to accept that fact and move on to the next system, use Walcott. We have no choice.

We are missing Diab that is a fact, Ramsy has to go and pay his wages to Theo. we need someone near Giroud he always win the ball but noone is there to help him. If Michael Owen was playing with Giroud he would been loving it, that is what we need a goal poacher. Come on you Arsenal we can do better if not best. Diab we need your power in the midfield please get well soon and Gibbs come on man the ship is sinking get up from the treatment table.

And who is responsible for all this???

Diaby was never a sure banker to be fit…nor Rosicky with both their sickness records.

We had Song who provided the drive (and several assists) last year but sold him with no replacement….WHAT A CLEVER MANAGER we have…..

I’m sure Tiote, Diame, Felaini would improve our team. I bet they would jump at the chance of CL football!

So, does anyone know why we havent replaced Song/Rosicky/Diaby ? Actually the real question is… DOES ARSENE KNOW….REALLY??

Wenger needs a plan – we didnt seem creative against Man u, QPR, Norwich and Schalke..
Alex was at our QPR game-divising a plan, did Wenger go to a man u game before ours.. to realise that Man u going to play a high line and close down our midfielders quick???
Really feel for Giroud – merely gets any service.
Podolski – really dissapointing , Santos seems a better bet for left winger than him.
Ramsey, not a natural winger – need to be replaced soon.
