Liverpool vs Newcastle Preview, Team News, Likely Line-ups & Predicted Score

Anfield Kop

Liverpool will be looking to get back on track after their midweek disappointment as Newcastle United visit Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds relinquished their League Cup after slumping to a 3-1 home defeat to Swansea City on Wednesday and this came after throwing away a 2-goal lead to Everton last Sunday, so Brendan Rodgers will be looking for more from his players this weekend.

Liverpool are also in desperate need of Premier League points as they are currently languishing in 13th place in the league table but a win will move them level on points with Newcastle in 10th.

The Geordies head into the game off the back of a draw with Sunderland and a win over West Bromwich Albion and victory for Alan Pardew’s men will see then jump up to 6th in the table.

Team News

Liverpool are still sweating over the fitness of goalkeeper Pepe Reina and defender Glen Johnson. Reina has missed the last four games with a hamstring injury but is expected to return on Sunday, however Johnson may well miss out.

Rodgers will also have to continue without long-term injury victims Lucas Leiva and Fabio Borini.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew will give a late test to striker Demba Ba – who has been rated at just 50-50 to play due to a calf injury picked up during last weekend’s win over WBA.

Key midfielder Cheick Tiote serves the second of his three game suspension after being sent off against Sunderland.

Predicted Score

Newcastle have a dreadful record at Anfield having not picked up a victory in their last 17 attempts, with Liverpool running out victors on 15 of those occasions, and the Geordies have also only scored one goal in their last 6 visits. We can see this trend continuing on Sunday. Liverpool 2-0 Newcastle.
