[Video] Fans Blast ‘Disgraceful’ Santos For Taking Van Persie Shirt At Half Time

It wasn’t only their teams performance on the pitch at Old Trafford that angered many Arsenal fans on Saturday. Gooners were left fuming after seeing hapless left back Andre Santos accepting former captain Robin van Persie’s shirt at half time during the Gunners 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.

Fans flocked to Twitter to voice their disgust calling Santos unprofessional, accused the Brazilian of showing too much respect to an opponent during a match and claiming he should have been concentrating on the game and improving his poor form. Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour was also left angered by the event:

“That’s a joke. I wouldn’t have that. At half-time? He should be concentrating on his game and he was having a nightmare.

“He can’t play in a back four as he gets caught out of position all the time.”

Parlour said in the Sun

Gunners fan Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) wrote: “Just seen tape of Santos getting #VanPursestrings’ shirt – utterly disgraceful. I want him sold tomorrow”. Here’s the incident that has riled so many Arsenal fans:

Come on Ray, your only claim to fame was your physical play. You wouldn’t survive in today’s game were tackles from behind, going over the top of the ball and all of the other crap that you got away with isn’t tolerated. Based on your limited technical ability you wouldn’t make it in today’s EPL. I find it laughable to read and or hear comments from folks like Parlour or Tony Adams about ability. They didn’t have any ability other than physically destroying their opponents.

So what does Ray Parlour’s spot-on comments have to do with the way that he used to play? Even if he and Adams were physical, they won trophies. The fact that Arsene’s Arsenal has players like Santos, Squillachi and co. should show to you that Arsenal is a shadow of its past. Wenger is no longer hungry and needs to go.

Santos is not a footballer. He is a liability. Let’s him go by mutual consent. Pay him off and get rid! Santos has no desire or urgency has no composure. Poor positioning, can’t tackle and can’t cross. I fear we are just pretenders now and for the 1st time I don’t see us as a threat for a place in the top 4 let alone the title.
