Di Matteo Next To Go After Guardiola Declares Chelsea Interest?

With Pep Guardiola reported to want the Chelsea job, we look at whether Abramovich could be set to sack yet another manager and what the Spaniard would bring.

Roberto Di Matteo Chelsea

According to reports former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola has told his friends he wants to manage Chelsea next. However Di Matteo is currently doing a very good job at the Bridge and this whole ‘saga’ makes you ask the question, ‘Will Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich sack another manager?’

For me, nobody who supports Chelsea should be thinking about Di Matteo being sacked. He’s done too good of a job to be treated like that. However it is difficult to stop your mind from wandering.

How well would Guardiola’s style suit Chelsea? It would be the perfect fit. The Spaniards Tiki-Taka passing is what Abramovich has been craving for so long, and now The Blues have the players to match it. Juan Mata, Oscar and Eden Hazard would flourish in this ‘environment’ and would make Chelsea the team to beat in Europe.

However, making Chelsea the team to beat in Europe is how Di Matteo got the job in the first place. The Italian has done a fantastic job so far at the London club. So far he has led his side to top spot in their Champions league league group with 2 games remaining, a Capital One Cup Quarter Final and helped The Blues leap to 2nd place in the Barclay’s Premier League, all while playing stylish and attractive football. So would the introduction of Guardiola make such a huge difference to what Chelsea already have now?

A possible solution to the ‘dilemma’ could be Di Matteo moving down to assistant manager; as Guardiola’s previous assistant, Tito Vilanova,  is otherwise engaged managing Barcelona.

Despite the moral feeling inside telling you, ‘sacking’ Di Matteo is wrong’, it remains hard to ignore the shear brilliance of Guardiola’s management. His stats are incredible. In 4 years at Barcelona he won 14 trophies: 2 Champions League crowns, 3 La Liga titles 2 Copa Del Reys, 2 Uefa Super Cups, 3 Supercopa de Espana’s and 2 FIFA Club World Cups. On top of this, his win percentage at the Catalan club was 72.47% over 247 games, in which he won 179, drew 47 and lost only 21. During these matches his side scored 638 goals leaving Barca with a goal per match ratio of 3.12.

There is no denying the talent of Pep Guardiola as a manager, but is it morally right that Chelsea are considering Di Matteo when all he has done for the club is good?
