Chelsea Favourites To Land Powerful African Striker?

European champions Chelsea are favourites to land highly-rated Vitesse Arnham striker Wilfried Bony, who has been strongly linked with a move this January.

Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Chelsea are linked with Wilfried Bony.

Wilfred Bony

European champions Chelsea are favourites to land highly-rated Vitesse Arnham striker Wilfried Bony, according to the Metro.

The 23-year-old Ivorian has been labelled as the ‘new Didier Drogba’ due to his physical style of play and has scored an impressive 27 goals in just 46 games for the Dutch outfit since making the move from Sparta Prague in 2011.

This form has attracted interest from several clubs throughout Europe and Bony has been linked with a big-money move this January, with the Metro claiming the Blues are heading the queue of interested parties.

Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo is desperate to add another striker to his squad when the transfer window re-opens in January, with Fernando Torres struggling for form and doubts continue over the long-term future of Daniel Sturridge.

The Metro’s report linking Chelsea with Bony come’s just days after Blues defender Tomas Kalas – who’s on loan at Vitesse – claimed his parent club needed a player with Bony’s qualities:

‘Chelsea need a player like him [Bony] at the moment,’

‘Torres is always moving and works hard, but he is not strong enough to lead the line.

‘I’m sorry for Torres, but that’s my personal opinion.’

Kalas in quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.

Is this a coincidence? Chelsea are now regarded as favourites to sign a player, whom they have not been strongly linked with in the past, just days after he was recommended to them? Hmmmm…

Chelsea may hold an interest in Bony, but i think the Metro are going a little overboard to say they are now ‘favourites’ to sign him in January. A striker is almost certain to move to Stamford Bridge in the winter, will it be Bony? Only time will tell, but i wouldn’t be rushing out to place a bet on it.
