Man City To Launch Audacious January Move For Luis Suarez
Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Manchester City target Luis Suarez.
The Reds will do all they can to keep hold of their star man but City boss Roberto Mancini has made the Uruguayan striker his No.1 target after failing in his attempts to sign Atletico Madrid’s Radamel Falcao – who is expected to move to Chelsea.
Suarez signed a new contract at Anfield in the summer so Liverpool are in a strong position to reject any move for the player and would demand a fee in excess of the record £50m they received for Fernando Torres should the South American push for a move.
However, the 25-year-old has shown no signs of discontent at Anfield and manager Brendan Rodgers revealed last week that Suarez had in fact rejected the chance to leave in the summer and the club’s focus is now to sign players to compliment the striker.
“At this moment in time I’m safe in the knowledge that Luis had the chance to go in the summer,”
“There was probably no better time for him to do that with a new manager coming in.
“He could have had an excuse to go, but having spoken to him at length he committed to staying here. He gave us that opportunity to see how it was going to work. It’s up to us as a club to add players that can help support him and move us on.”
Rodgers is quoted as saying by the Telegraph
However, Mancini is determined to test Liverpool’s resolve and is desperate to add another world class striker to his squad. The Italian is prepared to offload Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko in January to make room for the Reds hitman.
Suarez has scored 11 goals in 16 games so far this season and has been a rare shinning light in what has been a disappointing start for Rodgers at Liverpool.
