Liverpool vs Wigan Preview: Team News, Likely Line-ups & Predicted Score

Liverpool welcome Wigan Athletic to Anfield on Saturday afternoon. Here is a preview with team news, likely line-ups and predicted score for the big game.

Anfield Kop

Liverpool welcome Wigan Athletic to Anfield on Saturday afternoon looking to stretch their six-game unbeaten run in the league.

Brendan Rodgers men have not tasted defeat in the league since their loss to Manchester United on the 23rd September but will be looking to improve upon their win rate, with four of the six games ending in draws.

The Reds currently sit in 13th place, just a point ahead of the visitors, so Rodgers will be demanding victory to climb up the table and will be buoyed by his sides comeback against Chelsea last weekend that saw Luis Suarez grab a second half equaliser.

Wigan head into the game off the back of last weekends 2-1 defeat to West Brom but will be full of confidence having secured a shock 1-0 win at Anfield in last years fixture thanks to a Gary Caldwell strike.

Team News

Rodgers is set to recall goalkeeper Jose Reina after the Spaniard missed the last five weeks with a hamstring injury. Brad Jones is expected to drop back to the bench having stood in for the last four league games.

Midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is fit again after missing England’s midweek friendly with Sweden with a thigh strain, while Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger are expected to be passed fit despite picking up knocks.

Roberto Martinez is able to call upon the services of winger Ryo Miyachi after the on-loan Arsenal winger recovered from a groin injury that has ruled him out of the last five games.

James McArthur is likely to miss out with a dead leg and he will join Albert Crusat and Antolin Alcaraz on the sidelines.

Predicted Score

Despite Liverpool’s disastrous home record in 2012, that has seen them pick up just 3 wins in 15 including 6 defeats, we expect Brendan Rodgers side to pick up all three points at Anfield for only the second time this season. Liverpool 2-1 Wigan.
