Arsenal Transfer News: Midfielder Set For January Move

By on November 24, 2012

Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Andrey Arshavin looks set to leave Arsenal.

Andrey-Arshavin

Russian outfit Zenit St Petersburg have offered Andrey Arshavin a way out of Arsenal this January, according to the Mirror.

The Gunners are wanting to cash in when the window re-opens rather than lose him for nothing when he’s out of contract in the summer, and former club Zenit have opened talks with the club about taking the 31-year-old back to his homeland.

Andrey is believed to be one of our top earners on £90,000-a-week so Arsene is keen to get his wages off the books as soon as possible, and a £3m deal is expected to be agreed between the two clubs with Zenit set to offer the player a two-and-a-half-year contract.

On the whole, Arshavin has been a huge disappointment at Arsenal. He arrived at the Emirates in January 2009 for £12m and was superb during the second half of the season. I really thought we had a superstar in the making.

But his form and confidence have slowly declined to the point he’s now lucky to get a place on the bench and sadly i think his time in north London is up.  He’s shown in patches that he still have the talent, but something’s missing and it’s best for both parties if he seals a move back to Zenit in January.

Do you think Arshavin should leave? Or does he still have something to offer? Get involved in the comments section.

Arshavin is still 3x better than Gervinho. We should be looking to sell crap like Gervinho, Chamakh etc before someone like Arshavin! At least he actually has talent unlike the other players I have mentioned.

Selling Arshavin and leaving Gervinho will be a mistake of calamitous proportions. He may have lost a yard of pace, but his intelligence and ability to unlock defences with passes has been proven over and over again. Gervinho : all brawn no brain.

For me we have a number of pairs of players that could be replaced by one very good one for example
squillaci and djourou could be replaced by a top centre back
denilson and eastmond could be replaced by a top dm/holding midfielder
rosicky and diaby could be replaced a top attacking midfielder
whilst arshavin and santos could be replaced by versatile left sided player who could mainly cover gibbs. then uou have chamakh and bendtner who could be replaced by another genuine central striker and finally park and watt whose place could go to another secondary striler perhaps who can cover the right wing as well. there is also fabianski and shea who whilst both are good keepers should be replaced by an experienced keeper who could also mentor szczesney mannone and martinez.

We would be made to let Ashavin go he’s exactly what we need the wing, he’s a new option,he’s a plan B, instead of having the same old thing replacing itself every time we make a substitution, and he’s a mile better than Gervinho, I think Arsenal have let him down over the years and they should give him a chance and not just 10 minutes every other game. I also think his style of play would suit Giroud.

What Arsenal should do in January with the money from the Emirates deal is:

    SELL: Chamakh, Squillaci and Santos

LOAN OUT: Frimpong and coquelin to premiership sides

BYE: a RVP standard centre forward (if that’s possible)like:
    Huntelaar
    Ba
    Falcao
    gomez.
then they should replace song with a top holding player(I’ll let wenger decide who that should be) and a new left back maybe Baines (this could be left until the summer)

    in the summer they should:

SELL: Gervinho and all loaned out players except the young talented ones

BYE: leandro damiao or pato and Zaha or Schurrle

And they should sign all contracts that are due to expire within the next two years
