Fernando Llorente has dropped a huge hint that he’s set for a move after saying he want’s to leave Athletico Bilbao in as high a position as possible in La Liga, according to talkSPORT.

The Spanish striker is in the final year of his contract with Bilbao and negotiations over an extension have broken down. The La Liga outfit are desperate to try and hang on to the 27-year-old and are trying to arrange fresh talks in a last-ditch attempt to secure his long-term future but talkSPORT claim Llorente wants a new challenge and has his mind set on leaving.

Arsenal and Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move, while Manchester City are also keeping tabs on his situation, and the trio will be able to sign Llorente on a pre-contract agreement this January ahead of a free transfer summer move.

The Premier League clubs have now been boosted after the player dropped the biggest hint yet that he’s ready to leave after claiming he want’s end his dry patch of goals and leave Bilbao in as high a league position as possible.

“Hopefully I can get a few goals by the end. The more the merrier – and I’d like to leave the team as high in the table as I can.”

Llorente is quoted as saying by talkSPORT

The striker, who netted 29 goals last season to help Bilbao reach the Europa League final, has found goals hard to come by this year and has been in-and-out the starting eleven, with many claiming the uncertainty over his future has affected his form. But the player insists he will continue to give his all for the team while he’s still an Athletico player. He continued:

“You have to forget what has happened (regarding his future and talk of an exit). Perhaps I have lacked luck this year,” he added.

“I will continue to give everything here for Athletic.”

Arsenal and Liverpool are both in the market for a striker this January and they may decide to try and temp Bilbao into cashing in now rather than lose Llorente for nothing in the summer.
