Arsenal have been linked with a move for Juventus striker Alessandro Matri, according to talkSPORT.

The 28-year-old initially moved to Juve on a six month loan deal from Calgiari in January 2011 but after scoring 9 goals in 12 games, the Turin giants made the move permanent in the summer.

Matri was a key player for Juventus last season and played in 30 games, scoring 10 goals, to help lead them to the Serie A title – going the entire season unbeaten.

However, the former AC Milan striker has struggled to replicate that form this season and has made just two starts in the league so far. The player is said to be unsettled by his lack of playing time, leading to speculation he could be on the move again.

Arsenal manger Arsene Wenger is in the market for a forward when the window re-opens in January and talkSPORT claim Matri is on his wish-list, and the Frenchman is set to test the Italian giants resolve with a £7m bid this winter.

A striker is a must this January as we’re heavily reliant on Olivier Giroud up front. Lukas Podolski is more than capable of playing through the middle, and has indicated he’d prefer to play there, but the boss see’s him on the left and with Marouane Chamakh yet to make a league start this season, it means Giroud is the only out-and-out striker in the first-team squad.

Is Matri the man to solve our striking problems? I’m not convinced, but as long as we’re making positive moves in the window, I’m happy.
