Arsenal Transfer News: Wenger Eyes Senegal Midfielder

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is interested in signing West Ham midfielder Mohamed Diame in January, with the Senegal international said to be available for £4m.

Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Arsenal are linked with Mohamed Diame.

Mohamed Diame West Ham

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is interested in signing West Ham midfielder Mohamed Diame in January, according to the Goal.com.

The report claims that Wenger has been alerted to the availability of the Senegal international after West Ham chairman David Gold revealed on Friday that the player had a release clause in his three-year contract. Gold ‘Tweeted’:

“Diame does have a release clause in his three-year contract. He joined us from Wigan on a free transfer,” Gold is quoted as saying by Goal.com

Diame joined the Hammers on a free transfer from Wigan in the summer and has been in impressive form in the middle of the park for Sam Allardyce’s side, most notably a MOTM display against Chelsea last weekend.

‘Sources’ have told Goal.com that the release clause is set at close to £4m which I feel would be something of a bargain for a player of Diame’s quality. The only player we have in the squad comparable to him is Abou Diaby but the Frenchman just can’t stay fit. After an encouraging start to the season he once again picked up an innocuous injury and has been out since September 29th and it doesn’t look like he’ll be back any time soon.

The report suggests that the boss is finally set to give up relying on Diaby and is ready to move for a defensive midfielder when the transfer window re-opens next month. If true, it’s excellent news as I’ve been crying out for Arsene to sign a midfield powerhouse in recent transfer windows.

At 25, Diame still has plenty of time to develop further and i think his style would fit in well at the Emirates. The pairing of Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere doesn’t seen balanced to me and the addition of a powerful ball-winner could make all the difference for the second half of the season.
