Guardiola Tells Arsenal They’re His Preferred Choice?

Former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola would prefer to manage Arsenal ahead of Premier League rivals Chelsea or Manchester City if he were to come to England.

Pep Guardiola would prefer to manage Arsenal ahead of Chelsea or Manchester City if he were to come to England, according to Goal.com.

The report claims the Spaniard has been courted by several clubs throughout Europe since quitting Barcelona in the summer with Chelsea and Manchester City said to be interested in luring him to the Premier League next year.

However, an apparent ‘source’ has told Goal.com that Guardiola’s representatives have been in touch with officials at Arsenal and made it clear that his preference would be to take over the reigns at the Emirates should Arsene Wenger leave the club at the end of the season.

The ‘source’ says that Guardiola doesn’t want to go to Chelsea due to the lack of stability at Stamford Bridge and he holds a good relationship with Arsene Wenger after doing his coaching badges at Arsenal.

“Guardiola’s preference in England is Arsenal,” a source told Goal.com.

“The club are aware he would be interested in the job in 2013.

“Guardiola doesn’t want to go to Chelsea. He is worried about the lack of stability. He also has a good relationship with Wenger dating back to when he started doing his coaching badges at Arsenal.”

While many Arsenal fans, myself included, may be feeling slightly giddy at the thought of Guardiola taking over in the summer, I wouldn’t be getting too excited just yet. I have my doubts over the credibility of this unnamed ‘source’ and a lot needs to happen for the Spaniard to come to the Emirates in any case.

There is little doubt that Arsene Wenger is under increasing pressure at the Emirates following our poor start to the season and our shock exit from the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night. If we don’t win a trophy for the eight consecutive year or we miss out on a place in the top-four this season, both of which are conceivable at this point, the Frenchman may decide to walk, but i really can’t see the board sacking him.

So while Goal’s source may claim Guardiola would like the Arsenal job, much will depend on how our season unfolds over the coming months and whether Wenger decides it’s time for a change. Many may feel that time has already come, but sadly Wenger seems to call all the shots these days and will probably decide for himself when the time is right to leave north London.

Let’s just hope Guardiola is still available when that time finally comes.
