Dutch Midfielder Set For January Move?
Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Kevin Strootman is linked with a move this January.
Strootman has become one of the most talented midfielders in the Eredivisie after joining PSV from Utrecht 18 months ago with his impressive form seeing him break into the Holland national team set-up as well as earning him a place in the Dutch Euro 2012 squad.
The Sun claims the 22-year-old midfielder wants to play at the highest level and he may get his wish this January with Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham all said to be interested in his signature.
The report suggests the Gunners and United are ‘leading the chase’ with Arsenal scout Steve Rowley and United scout Martin Ferguson understood to have sent back positive reviews on the player to their respective managers.
An apparent source told the newspaper that Strootman is almost certain to leave when the transfer window re-opens next month and claims his destination is likely to be either Old Trafford or the Emirates.
“It looks certain that he will leave in January. The only question is where?
“It looks like Manchester United or Arsenal — they are both very keen.”
A ‘source’ told the Sun
While the Sun’s ‘source’ should obviously be taken with a pinch of salt, it will be interesting to see how this transfer story develops in January. Arsenal and United could both do with a midfield enforcer such as Strootman and if he is available they could do a lot worse than looking to the Dutchman.
