Everton may decide to cash-in on Chelsea target Marouane Fellaini in January in order to raise funds for new players, according to the Guardian.

Fellaini has come under fire following a number of incidents involving Ryan Shawcross this weekend, with the Belgian likely to receive a lengthy ban from the FA today after appearing to headbutt and elbow the Stoke defender during a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Boss David Moyes has condemned Fellaini’s actions and the Guardian claim that the events at the Britannia, combined with Everton’s need for funds to strengthen their squad with, make it far more likely that Moyes will decide now is the time to sell his top scorer if a bid of £30m comes in.

The report suggests that the 25-year-old has hinted he’d be open to a move either in January or in the summer, with Chelsea believed to be showing an interest in the player, and the Toffees may decide to cash-in to fund their own January transfer dealings.

Everton are looking short of options in attack and Kevin Mirallas is the latest forward who’s set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury on Saturday. Moyes hinted he needs to strengthen his forward options, saying after the game:

“We know we are certainly short, we don’t have an awful lot,”

“With Kevin Mirallas and Victor Anichebe out, we were very limited, we couldn’t change the forward players.

“We have got young players and brought on Ross Barkley but we have not got enough in the forward areas at the moment. We missed Mirallas, who gives us something else.” Moyes is quoted as saying by the Guardian.

So will Chelsea take advantage of the situation and persuade Everton to sell Fellaini and give Moyes the money he needs to bring in a few players next month? We’ll have to see how this develops in January but the big Belgian would be an excellent signing should he make the move to Stamford Bridge.

He’s almost unplayable at times and his versatility would be a real asset. He’s able to play in a deep midfield role but has also shown his qualities higher up the pitch in recent months, and is Everton’s top-scorer this season with 8 goals in 15 games.
