Huntelaar Wants Big-Bucks As Arsenal Open Talks With Schalke Over Move

Striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will demand £100,000-a-week to join Arsenal after the Gunners opened official talks with Schalke over a possible £6m January move.

Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, more on a possible move of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to Arsenal.

Klaas-Jan-Huntelaar

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will demand £100,000-a-week to join Arsenal after the Gunners opened official talks with Schalke over a possible £6m January move, according to the Daily Mail.

Our need for a new striker has been well documented in recent weeks, with several names being linked with a move to north London, but one player I keep seeing talked about by the press is Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

The Mail claim we’ve now opened talks with Schalke over a proposed deal and the player has been made aware of our intentions to sign him when the transfer window re-opens next month.

However, the report also claims the Holland international will want a basic £100,000-a-week in wages to move to north London. Huntelaar is now 29-year-old so this is likely to be his last big contract and his representatives are understood to be trying to get him the best deal possible.

If these demands are accurate, it could scupper any potential deal if we stick to our wage structure. Arsene Wenger has always been reluctant to offer players around the age of 30 big-money, long-term deals, so it seems he’ll have to change tact if he’s to land Huntelaar.

Should we meet his demands, the Mail claim Huntelaar would become our top earner, eclipsing Lukas Podolski who’s understood to earn £90,000-a-week, so it would set a president for future contract negotiations as well.

It might all come down to how much Wenger really wants the player. Proven goal-scorers like Huntelaar aren’t easy to find and they cost big-bucks. Sometimes you have to pay for the best Arsene, and I’d love to see the former Real Madrid man at the Emirates next month.
