Wenger Finally Clearing The ‘Deadwood’ With 4 Outcasts Linked With Moves

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is finally set to offload some of his ‘deadwood’ with Arshavin, Chamakh, Squillaci and Djourou all linked with moves away this month.

With the January transfer window now open for business we’ll be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer gossip. Today,  several Arsenal outcasts could finally be leaving the club.

Johan Djourou

It seems Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is finally set to offload several members of the ‘deadwood’ brigade with Andrey Arshavin, Marouane Chamakh, Sebastien Squillaci and Johan Djourou all being linked with moves away from the club this month.

The boss has been speaking at his weekly press conference ahead of this weekends FA Cup clash with Swansea and he’s confirmed that defender Squillaci would move on if he can find a club while Djourou could also be on his way with his future set to be decided in the next few days. Wenger is quoted as saying by the Mirror.

“Squillaci, if he finds a club, he will certainly go. Djourou might go somewhere as well, that will be decided in the next 48 to 72 hours.”

The Daily Mail report today that Hannover 96 are one of the clubs showing an interest in Djourou with the Germans said to be keen on taking him on loan with a view to a permanent deal. President Martin Kind is quoted as saying by the Mail:

‘I can confirm he (Djourou) is on our list and there have been talks.’

The newspaper also claims that Arshavin is attracting interest from PSV Eindoven after rejecting a move to Reading, but the Russian attacker is understood to be keen on linking up with former Russian coach Dick Advocaat in Holland.

The final player who could leave north London in January is Marouane Chamakh with the Mail reporting that French side Lille and London rivals West Ham are interested in the Moroccan striker.

While most Gooners are more interested in who may be coming in to the Emirates this month, I think it’s just as important we get the ‘deadwood’ out the door and off the wage bill.

The likes of Squillaci, Djourou and Chamakh are all paid high wages for doing practically nothing other than turning up to training so we need to ship them out and then Arsene will have room to bring in players to the squad who will be able to contribute to the first team.
