With the January transfer window now open for business we’ll be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer gossip. Today, news on Yann M’Vila and Lewis Holtby.
We’re just days into the January transfer window and things are starting to hot up. First-up, the Independent are once again linking us with a possible move for Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila.
I’m sure many Arsenal fans will remember the rumours over a possible move to the Emirates in the summer but after his disciplinary issues at the Euro’s, any potential move failed to materialise and M’Vila remained in Ligue 1.
However, the Independent suggest that Arsenal may renew their interest after the player admitted he’s open to a move away from Rennes and if a good offer came in, there is ‘no doubt’ he would move.
“I am at Rennes at the moment so let’s see what happens,”
“If the club receive a good offer and I like the destination then I will go, there is no doubt about that. Until that happens, nothing can be said.”
M’Vila is quoted as saying in the Independent
As I’ve said for months now, I think Arsenal are in need of a powerful ball-winning midfielder so I wouldn’t be adverse to us going in for M’Vila. He’s certainly talented and he’d be eligible to play in the Champions League during the second half of the season.
The Independent suggest he would cost around £12m, which would be within Arsene’s price-range, so the only problem may be Wenger’s concerns over his temperament.
Next up is Lewis Holtby with Arsene Wenger confirming he’s watching the Schalke midfielder, according to Sky Sports.
Holtby is out of contract in the summer and is free to agree a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs this month ahead of a free transfer summer move, and Arsene has confirmed he’s on his radar.
“The emerging countries to produce players look to be Germany and Spain and they have many good young players,” he said.
“When you look at the results of France against Germany at U17 in the last few years, and U16 – 4-0, 4-1 to Germany – that shows the trend will be more in favour of the Germans.
“We have looked at Holtby, and have played against him.
“Our scouts are kept on alert and the quality of the scouting is linked with that.” Wenger is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News
I was impressed with Holtby’s performance during Schalke’s 2-0 win over us at the Emirates in the Champions League this season and he looks like he’d be a great addition, especially on a free.

But of the two players linked above, I think M’Vila would be the best signing. We badly need a big powerful midfielder to compliment the likes of Cazorla, Wilshere and Arteta so I hope we go for the Rennes man – or someone similar – this month.
Who would you like to see come to the Emirates in January? Get involved in the comments section below.
We cant wait for summer move so i prefer M’vila to support the likes of Wilshere,Arteta and Carzola.
Jesus Navas
I think M villa could be a perfect choice, beside,I would have prefered to see both players at Emirate, with two defenders.
“But of the two players linked above, I think M’Vila would be the best signing. We badly need a big powerful midfielder to compliment the likes of Cazorla, Wilshere and Arteta so I hope we go for the Rennes man – or someone similar” it’s complement, not compliment
What is actually wrong with arsene wenger, he would always wake up when it is too late. Chelsea had signed demba ba so soon and so soon Ba will be familiar with both players and pattern of chelsea play. Unlike wenger, he would always buy late.
Dude arsenal never had so much money that, it can be flung simply to get the players in an instance…. So my thought would be, sign mvila and let go of holtby. We do not want a striker coming in bcuz as soon as a striker is signed, walcott will leave the club and ee do not want that to happen.
SEE WHO IS TALKING ABOUT THE SUMMER, OBVIOUSLY WENGER HAS LOST FOCUS… WHAT HAPPENS TO THE REMAINING 18 MATCHES WE MUST PLAY IN THE PREMIERSHIP? WHY NOT ACT NOW AND LETS SECURE A TOP FOUR SPOT AS THAT IS WHERE WENGER HAS CONFINED US TO BE RATHER THAN CONTEST FOR THE TITLE…
Both two were very talented,so i think they should all be sign.
Arsenal is most defiantly in need of a powerful ball-winning midfielder and M Villa is the man I think will bring back the balance we have lost back into our mid field
Winger pleace get us m’villa and lopez, please we need title not top four
Arsenal could do with signing both these players and also a new centre back like Hummels!!!
Everybodys signing players and arsenal is only doing window shopping. Our beloved club is like a poor man walking through the mall with his son making promises to his son that one day he will have everything his heart desires but we all know the reality. Wenger wont buy more than 1 player and adrian lopez is crap lets be honest even the stats dont lie how is he gona make a difference in our team when he hardly even gets game time at his current club.
Why will winger buy new plyers after all d management has nw entrice of marking dia fans happy 4 how many years nw dat we av nting in hand ol what there after is hw to make more more and more money
Honestly Arsenal needs a defensive midfielder and M’vila will be a good signing. Arsene Wenger has been link with a host of players, other clubs have started signing this players eg Ba. Arsenal needs to be active in this transfer window.
Action speacks louder dan voice act fast holtby gone,ba gone soon mvilla would be gone
It is roubling to hear that Demba ba has been bought by Chelsea. Before the transfer window could open Ba was hoping to play for arsenal but surprisingly Arsene di not go for him or did not apply any interest all. What a mess are we going to wait until in final hour of the transfer window then we buy some that no one is dreaming of.
I looose confidence in arsene coz he will just deceive us
3players I would love arsenal to sign juventus’s Vidal great defensive midfielder also can score goals,Pato wants to leave Milan his still young and has plenty of experience not to mention a proven goal scorer, isco the guy is just amazing he is a golden boy…take a risk splash the cash before we’re to late prove people wrong that we arnt just a selling club wenger has got the backing from the board to spend it so spend it!!
Winger shuld stop deciving us we are not kids if he want 2 buy player he shuld go ahead and sign a world class player we need truphy not top 4
I think that Wenger is going to buy only one striker in January so I hope that it is Villa. I am glad that Chelsea have brought Ba because Ba is good striker (which every team in the premership have) not an exceptional striker which we need. I think he would be no different than what we already have in terms of Walcott, Podolski and Giroud. Also his release clause was only around 7 million but I heard if a club signs him the fee would be around double that with fees for the agents and a loyalty fee added on top of the 7 million. I also thought that Cisse who plays for newcastle looks a better player than Ba just a thought. I think that we need a GK so we can get rid of Fab and Mannone, a CB to replace Johan and Sqillaci who are supposed to be going on loan, a LB to replace Santos if he leaves, a good quality DM (prefferably M’Vila or Vidal), a winger to replace Arshavin and a striker to replace Maroune who is now on loan at West Ham (prefferably Villa, we might be able to get him for less than 16 million as Barca owe us money from the sales of Song and Fabregas) but I can only see Wenger making 2 to 3 signing any more would surprise me.
forget about midfielders we need a quality centre half , right &left back.
