David Villa Barcelona

Another development on the David Villa front today Gooners as Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has insisted they have no intention of selling the striker to Arsenal this month, according to Sky Sports News.

The report claims that Arsene Wenger is expected to strengthen his squad in January after offloading Marouane Chamakh and Johan Djourou, with the boss said to be keen on luring Villa to the Emirates.

Reports earlier in the week suggested the Catalans were looking for around £16m for the 31-year-old, although the Daily Star claimed we may have to wait until the summer to have a chance of signing the former Valencia hitman due to his wife giving birth to their son next month.

It seems Barca have the same idea after Rosell confirmed they have no intention in letting Villa leave this winter.

“I completely rule out the transfer of Villa during the winter market.

“He is ours and we need him, there is a lot of the season left.”

Rosell is quoted as saying by Sky Sports

Villa has struggled to regain his place in the Barcelona first team after recovering from a broken leg but he’s still a quality striker. His career stats are superb with 274 goals in 555 games during his illustrious career, so he’s certainly the kind of player we could do with at Arsenal.

But if we have to wait until the summer to try and land him I don’t think he’ll be coming to the Emirates. The competition is likely to be more intense for one, plus we need players NOW and we can’t hang around until the end of the season.

But do we take what Rosell says as gospel? Is he playing the transfer ‘game’ perhaps? Trying to drive the price up? Maybe….so let’s not give up hope just yet Gooners.
