Gallas- Brave or Stupid?

Gallas- brave or stupid?

Written by Minal Vachheta

Arsenal’s ex- central defender William Gallas is close to making his move to Tottenham Hotspurs. Gallas left Chelsea four years ago to join Arsenal, this gained a lot of attention seeing as both teams are London rivals.

Gallas is now making the headlines once again by considering a move to Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham. He was the Arsenal captain after Thierry Henry left for Barcelona; the 33 year old has agreed a one year deal which will be sealed once he has passed a medical.

William left the Arsenal camp in the summer when his contract ran out after rejecting a pay cut and a shorter contract, but has now accepted a one year contract with a lower salary than he received with the Gunners. Admittedly he would have had to have fought for the first team spot with the new signing of Koscielny, but what was the point of fighting of demanding more at Arsenal then going on to settling for less at Tottenham?

Gallas is a very temperamental player, he had his fair share of strops on the pitch during and after games, which was often frowned upon by the manager and the fans. This left him in a sort of 50/50 position with the fan base, not all fans here huge lovers of him but others thought he was brilliant.

It is likely Gallas will be playing at White Hart Lane sooner rather than later. The rivalry between Arsenal and Tottenham fans is known throughout the Premier league, the clubs are strong north London rivals, this move is bound to illicit a strong reaction among many fans. Especially seeing as he has already played for Chelsea too. The question that remains to be answered is; is there any stadium in London where Gallas won’t be booed off the pitch?

Are Tottenham fans going to accept a former Gooner captain?

Is Gallas’ move to Tottenham a brave or reckless one?
