David Villa Barcelona

Some interesting news regarding Arsenal’s pursuit of David Villa today with several media outlets reporting that boss Arsene Wenger will wait until the final days of the transfer window before making a last-ditch attempt to land the Barcelona striker.

The Sun claim Wenger is desperate to sign the 31-year-old this month and will submit a £10m bid in the final 48 hours of the window, despite the fact Barca are adamant the hitman isn’t for sale.

The newspaper also suggests Villa is keen on moving to the Emirates and is ready to force a move if needed, and has already spoken to manager Tito Vilanova about his desire to leave in search of first team football.

The Mirror also run a similar report and suggest we’re confident we can persuade the Catalans to sell due to our past dealings when selling them Cesc Fabregas and Alex Song.

I would love to see David Villa in the famous Red & White jersey. He would fit seamlessly into our set up and be the out-and-out goal-scorer we’ve been missing this season.

He hasn’t been able to force his way back into the first team reckoning at the Nou Camp after recovering from a broken leg but has still managed to chip in with 10 goals this season including a classy double during last weeks 5-0 Copa del Rey win over Cordoba.

It’s always risky to wait until the final hours of the transfer window as it leaves very little time for maneuver. If Barca agree to sell, the deal may hinge on them signing a replacement and they’ll be left with just hours to do so. If they don’t sell, we risk not signing a striker which in my opinion would mean no top-four finish this season.

So I’ve never been a fan of last minute buying but if that’s what it takes to land a player like Villa, it will be worth the wait. Fingers crossed we can pull it off…..
