Spanish Star Wants Arsenal Move But Wenger No Longer Wants Him

Barca striker David Villa wants to move to Arsenal at the end of the season but Arsene Wenger is ready to turn his attention to youngster targets in the summer.

Some interesting news on the future of David Villa today with the Sun reporting he wants to seal a move to Arsenal at the end of the season, but the Mirror claim Arsene Wenger no longer wants him as he’ll turn his attention to youngster targets in the summer.

We were heavily linked with a move for the Spanish hitman throughout the January transfer window but it was understood that Barca wouldn’t let the striker leave half way through the season.

After struggling to regain his first team place following a broken leg, the Sun claim Villa has decided to quit the Nou Camp and has his ‘heart set’ on a move to the Emirates in the summer. The 31-year-old will only have a year left on his current contract at the end of the season and the newspaper suggests he could be snapped up for around £14 million.

However, Villa may be disappointed to read the Mirror’s report that claims Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has cooled his interest in him and will turn his attention to younger targets in the summer.

The Mirror claims that Wenger was keen to sign the Barca man last month to try and give his squad more cutting edge during the second half of the season but the Frenchman is understood to have told his staff he’ll now be in the market for a younger striker come the summer.

It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if Wenger does go for a different striker now. Villa would have been a superb signing in January and would have given us a major boost as we try to overhaul Chelsea and Tottenham for a place in the top-four. But it never happened and I doubt we’ll ever see him in an Arsenal shirt now.

He’ll be 32 at the end of this year and if Arsene Wenger is going to buy a striker in the summer, I think he’d prefer to spend his money on someone who has more years ahead of him as well as more potential sell-on value. It’s a shame though as I’d have loved to see David Villa playing alongside the likes of Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Theo Walcott. They could have devastating.
