Falcao Looks Set For Summer Move

By  Published: 6th February 2013

Despite the transfer window now being closed there will still be plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Radamel Falcao looks set to move in the summer.

Colombia Radamel Falcao

Chelsea and Manchester City have been boosted in their pursuit of Radamel Falcao after the striker was told he is free to leave Atletico Madrid in the summer, according to the Daily Star.

The Colombian hitman has become one of the most feared strikers in world football in recent years after scoring 58 goals in just 71 games for Atletico since moving from Porto in 2011.

His form hasn’t gone unnoticed with the Telegraph one of several newspapers to link Chelsea and Manchester City with the 26-year-old over the last few transfer windows and the Premier League duo have now been boosted with the news that the striker will be available in the summer.

The Star claim Atletico have already began looking for Falcao’s replacement and are understood to have opened talks with David Villa’s representatives two weeks ago about a possible move from Barcelona at the end of the season.

The report suggests Atletico have also identified City’s Edin Dzeko as a potential replacement so there is the possibility of a swap deal with Falcao, but it’s believed Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will launch a big-money move for the prolific striker once he brings in a permanent manager.

If this news is accurate and Atletico have accepted they won’t be able to hang on to Falcao in the summer, it’s surely going to spark a transfer battle between all the top football financial super-powers.

It’s not often a player like Falcao comes on the market and I could see the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona joining Chelsea and City in the race to sign him. Where will he end up? It looks like we’ll have to wait until the summer to find out but I’d love to see him in the Premier League next season.
