Chelsea are lining up a £47m cash-plus-player deal to try and finally land Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao, according to the Metro.

The European champions have long been linked with a move for the Columbian hitman but have so far been unable to lure him to west London. However, the Metro claim Chelsea are lining up a deal to try and finally land the player that would include £47m in cash plus highly-rated goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

20-year-old Courtois is currently enjoying his second successful year on loan with Atletico and has been hugely impressive during his time in Spain. He was a key member of the team that lifted the Europa League last season and has played in 19 La Liga matches this year helping Atletico above rivals Real Madrid into second in the table.

The Metro claim that while the Belgian keeper been touted as the long-term successor to Petr Cech at Stamford Bridge, the club are willing to sacrifice him if it means landing Falcao in the summer and are hopeful the cash-plus-player package will ensure they beat off the competition at the end of the season.

Falcao has continued his stunning goal-scoring record this campaign with 22 goals in just 21 appearances, taking his total to 59 goals in just 71 games for Atletico. Those figures dwarf those of current Chelsea front-man Fernando Torres who’s only managed 27 goals in 108 appearances since joining Chelsea from Liverpool in 2010, so it’s easy to see why the Blues are understood to be willing to go that extra mile to sign Falcao.

No …… however good he might be he’s not worth it, there must be loads of srikers out there for less, we’ll need at least two decent ones ewhen we get shot of Torres..

It would be foolish for CFC to allow that young keeper go. Coz they don’t have a backup keeper if check is injured. And trust me….no high profile striker will excel in chelsea….if history is anything to go-by.

I would just like to reply to Kevin that when we get rid of Torres sooner rather than later hopefully we can and should recall lukaku and with demba ba and falcao that would be a pretty awesome strike force

Keep Courtios and swap Torres, throw in Benitez and make Terry interim manager until Jose arrives.
Terry is the heart and soul of Chelsea and should be groomed to take over when Jose retires in 10 years.
IF ONLY! Now I am going outside to watch the flying pigs.

the price tag plus a player is outrageous cos wit d form of the Belgian goalkeeper whom I think currently worth about 10 – 15 million pounds will just be a waste for a single player. I think its high time we(chelsea) minimize our spending in d transfer mkt and believe in wat we ve got. Ba is a prolific goal scorer and I think if he is given d chance he will perform even more than Drogba. Abramovic should forget about Falcao but if he is so desperate of bringing a striker to d bridge then he should go for either Cavani or Lewandoski.

It would be the most foolish decision I’ve ever seen anyone make.
No goalkeeper in Courtois’ age bracket comes close in terms of quality,£47m certainly will trigger Cavani’s buy clause,Cavani is younger and can even be better.
Lest I forget,I don’t believe this article a bit,d writer wanted a page click right? Am sure he’s gotten more than enough clicks.

I think its a bad idea, having hav d likes of ba,torres, lukaku wit just chech being a good keeper and no 1 we hav, it won’t be good enough to allow his replacement to go like that, bcos we need him next season as backup 4 chech. For falcao 4get him and look 4 a midfielder that can feed d strikers we hav, bcos if falcao comes and no good midfielder to feed him he’ll end up flop.

Why would chelseafc be foolish avnt we had enough?torres is figthin 4 form wat gives assurance falcoa wont be d same.imagine 47 nd great lad in courtious, falcoa should go 2 hell jst get lewandoski nd debruyen back nd collect courtious back nd keep d money.be wise chelsea spend reasonablly.

Chelsea should think of developing talents the have and stop looking out for those which may still show dismal performance later if they are brought in.Falcao should go elsewhere rather than joinin chelsea.

hey, hey, hey…pls guys, let’s talk abt this. the release clause for falcao is £48m right? now it’s said that cfc hv lined‐up £47m cash plus courtois which means that if cfc has to sell that talented shot stoper(courtois) he could coast just £1m isn’t it? is not that money enougth for cfc to get cavani or lewandoski, then recall back lukaku frm loan? we must stop dreaming like that ok? freak poem…!
