Liverpool’s new signing Raul Meireles has stated that he is finally fulfilling his dream of playing in the Premier League.

The 27 year old has been one of Europe’s most sought-after stars for a number of years but a move overseas had never materialised up until now. Liverpool confirmed the deal late on Saturday night where he was subsequently unveiled to the Liverpool faithful prior to their 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Sunday afternoon.

The Portuguese international has joined from FC Porto in a deal believed to around £11.5 million. Having made his name in the city of Porto with Boavista and the city’s namesake side, the midfield anchorman has expressed his pleasure about his arrival to England.

He is delighted to be finally fulfilling a lifelong dream of playing in England’s top division.

“It has been a long time coming but finally I have achieved my dream of playing in England.” he told the club’s official website.

He is also paid tribute to new manager Roy Hodgson who played an integral role for his arrival to Merseyside.

“Liverpool are an historic club and I am happy for the move. Roy Hodgson was key because he worked so hard to get me.”

“I hope the fans will one day remember me for my success at Liverpool.”

This move will now push Javier Mascherano’s departure to  Barcelona or Internazionale. The Argentina captain had expressed his desire to leave and will finally get his wish following Meireles’s arrival.

Meanwhile Paul Konchesky is also set to be unveiled as Hodgson’s latest recruit.

The left-back will reunite with his former boss who was part of the fabric at Craven Cottage who heroically reached the Europa League Final back in May.
