Alves Urges Barcelona To Sign Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere

Barcelona full-back Dani Alves has claimed Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere can become the next Xavi and urged the Spanish giants to sign the exciting youngster

Despite the transfer window now being closed there will still be plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Dani Alves wants Jack Wilshere at Barcelona.

And so it begins. Us Arsenal fans have become used to Barcelona players openly ‘tapping up’ our star men over the years and predictably the Catalans are now targetting Jack Wilshere.

Barca full-back Dani Alves is the culprit this time after being quoted in the Telegraph as saying Jack has the ability to become as good as team-mates Xavi or Iniesta before claiming that he’d love him to join Barcelona. He said:

“He [Wilshere] is a great player who we have met playing against Arsenal and without doubt he can reach the height of the players we have here at Barcelona like Xavi and Iniesta,”

“He has a lot of quality and a great personality. If I was given the chance to choose, he is a player that I would sign for Barcelona.” Alves said in the Telegraph.

While most Gooners would agree that Wilshere has the potential to one of the very best midfielders in the world, the public display of affection from a Barcelona player for our Jack leaves a bad taste in the mouth due to our past experience with these situations. Next we’ll have Puyol claiming Wilshere has Barca DNA!

But this is something we’re going to have to get used to. The more he improves and showcases his talents on the world stage, the more attention he’s going to attract and that means we can expect more flirting from the Barca-boys during the coming years.

The good news is that I don’t expect Wilshere to be heading to Spain (or anywhere else for that matter) any time soon. He only recently signed a new long-term contract and besides, he’s Arsenal through and through and has been with the club since the age of nine. No doubt he has ambitions to captain the club and hopefully lead us to some silverware, or at least give it a good go, before even contemplating a move elsewhere.

If we can match his ambition and start challenging for trophies again I could even see Jack becoming a one-club man, he loves Arsenal that much. But more defeats to Bradford and Blackburn and he might just follow the like of Cesc Fabregas, Alex Song, Marc Overmars, Emmanuel Petit, Alex Hleb and Thierry Henry to the Nou Camp.
