Chelsea have lined up Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes as a potential replacement for Rafa Benitez at the end of the season, according to the Express.

The report claims that Blues owner Roman Abramovich is drawing up a list of candidates who could take over as full time boss in the summer with current interim coach Benitez expected to be relieved of his duties once the season is over.

The Spaniard has never been a popular choice at Stamford Bridge and has had to deal with constant flack from the clubs supporters ever since he replaced Roberto di Matteo back in November. His cause hasn’t been helped by inconsistent results on the pitch and there were reports earlier in the week that Benitez was involved in a training ground bust-up with captain John Terry.

The Express claim Heynckes is now being considered by Chelsea along with Juventus coach Antonio Conte, with the 67-year-old set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season when Pep Guardiola will take over.

The newspaper suggests Heynckes has been left disappointed at being ‘forced’ into retirement by the German giants and the Blues may try and lure him to London for one last big job before he officially retires.

Heynckes is currently enjoying his third spell at Bayern and has arguably built his best side yet with them running away with the Bundesliga title, boasting a huge 18-point advantage over second-placed Borussia Dortmund, and are also on the verge of qualifying for the quarter finals of the Champions League after demolishing Arsenal 3-1 at the Emirates last week.
