Transfer News: Arsenal & Tottenham Eye Austrian Attacker

Reports on Thursday claim north London duo Arsenal and Tottenham are showing an interest in Aston Villa attacker Andreas Weimann, who could leave this summer.

Despite the transfer window now being closed there will still be plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal and Tottenham eye Villa ace.

Arsenal and Tottenham are set to go head-to-head at White Hart Lane on Sunday for what could be a crucial North London Derby, but it seems they could be set to do battle off the field as well with the Daily Star claiming the duo are showing an interest in Aston Villa attacker Andreas Weimann.

The Austrian has been a shining light in what has otherwise been a disappointing season for Paul Lambert’s side and he scored his 10th goal of the season against the Gunners at the Emirates last weekend.

However, the 21-year-old’s contract is due to expire in just 17 months time and the Star claims Arsenal and Spurs are keeping tabs on his situation with talks between Villa and the players representatives over an extension understood to be stalling.

The Midlanders are scrapping for their lives at the foot of the Premier League table and the report suggests that if Villa get relegated to the Championship, Weimann could be available for a cut-price fee in the summer.

Weimann joined Villa as a teenager in 2007 from Rapid Vienna and after breaking into the first team last season has become a regular under Lambert this campaign. The versatile attacker can play on the wings as well as through the middle and his impressive form has also seem him break into the Austrian senior national team, earning 3 caps so far.
