Manchester United take on Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday looking to go one step closer to lifting the Premier League title this season.

Boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been speaking at his press conference at Carrington on Friday morning and gave ManUtd.com a team news and injury update ahead of the game with the latest on Robin van Persie and Phil Jones.

The good news is that striker van Persie has been passed fit to face the Canaries after being forced off against QPR last weekend with a hip injury. There were concerns the Dutchman may miss out after colliding with a camera at Loftus Road but Ferguson has confirmed the striker has trained all week and is in contention to start this weekend.

Defender Jones has been ruled out though after failing to recover from an ankle knock he picked up against Reading last month. The Englishman is now facing a race against time to be fit to face Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie on Tuesday, but the United boss says he’ll give the versatile defender every chance to prove his fitness.

Ferguson told the clubs official website:

“Phil Jones starts running today,” Sir Alex revealed. “He’s got a fight on his hands to be ready for Tuesday (Real Madrid) but we’ll give him every chance. He won’t be available for tomorrow (Norwich).

“We have no injury issues. Robin van Persie has trained this week – he’s available for tomorrow. His hip was very tender but he’s okay now.

“Tomorrow is an important one because Tuesday will look after itself. It’s an occasion on Tuesday whereas tomorrow is the mundane practical situation in that we need to win.”
