Spurs 2-1 Arsenal: Player Ratings & Thoughts On Wenger’s Mistakes By Lloyd The Gooner

By on March 4, 2013

Tottenham beat Arsenal 2-1 at White Hart Lane on Sunday to open up a seven point gap from their rivals and leave the Gunners with it all to do to finish in the top four. Here are Arsenal player ratings from by ‘Lloyd the Gooner’.

per mertesacker

We deserved at least a point. We didn’t get it for all the usual reasons. We can see it, can the manager? Here’s ratings from the game at the Lane:

Szczesny 6. Nothing to do and that says it all.

Jenkinson 7. Played well. Needs games to gain experience but plenty to work with.

Mertesacker 4. He is useless. I excuse him for the first half goals. But he is a yard wrong side so often. A liability.

Vermaelen 4. Culpable for both Tottenham goals. Ball watching, bad positioning, poor decision making it was all there.

Monreal 5. Asleep on the second goal. Lennon troubled him too. Not much on offer from him in attack.

Arteta 6. Steady but as usual his lack of pace and physique completely unbalanced the team.

Ramsey 5. Tried hard. But when was that ever enough in a top team. This level is at least two notches too high.

Wilshere 6. Better than any Spurs midfielder but below his best.

Cazorla 7. Deft control and changes of direction allowed him space where others struggled to find it. Decent display.

Walcott 5. Anonymous but to be fair didn’t get any quality service. When that happens though he isn’t good enough to go and make it happen himself. We have too many like that, Podoski is another.

Giroud 6. Willing and honest. Lacks the quality we need to get back to the top. He should be playing in our lesser games and coming off the bench in the big ones not our go-to striker.

Subs:

Rosicky. Not equipped to change the game so why is he asked to do it?

Podolski. Always a goal in him so why wasn’t he on at half time?

Manager. THIS IS WHAT YOU HAVE DONE OR ALLOWED TO HAPPEN ARSENE: The Ramsey blind spot, why are you playing him? Buying poor defenders. Not playing your best one. No holding midfield player. No pace or physique in central midfield. Lack of leadership. Too many players looking for others to do the job they should be doing and a hands on hips attitude when they don’t. No world class forward. A keeper that has to play because there is no alternative. There is so much more.

The board. Suspect the pressure is just about to increase to levels not seen since the last days of Terry Neill. You cannot treat the fans like mugs any more.

As a spurs supporter may I offer a reason why Arsenal are where they are? Well it is simply that everyone connected with the club is delusional.:-
    1) The board believe Wenger will be able to repeat his success.
2)Wenger believes that no matter how many euro dead legs he signs ,Arsenal will finish in the top 4.
    3) The supporters believe Wilshire alone can inspire them to greatness. Good player granted ,but a bit young to carry the club on his shoulders.

In my opinion ,until a bit of reality takes root at the Emirates, you are only headed in one direction.

San, is that the best you can do? Go back in history to try make yourself feel better? Spurs have a rich history and have won a fair amount or major trophies you Muppet so don’t give me that bulls* it. Come to terms with it, you have not won a single trophy for 8 years…thats funny. Now sit back and watch the real pride of North London succeed under AVB and Co.

LOL yeah arsenal will be relying more and more on history in years to come methinks.
Eventually good old arsene will be retired to a red and white retirement home watching endless looped dvd’s of the good old days.
Youth and hunger through our club and that includes the coach. Shame on you chelski for letting him get away.

San …..your grammar is on a par with your team’s defence.

Your team did not deserve a point. They were lucky not to lose by more. Right now, apart from Carzola & Wilshire, you don’t have players with Top 4 mentalities. Prime example is Theo “I want to play in a central position” Walcott.

Exactamundo. Penetration for us was like a rapier, for arsenal it was more of a blunt instrument held by a one armed invalid.

And now a Spurs fans ratings of the victorious Spurs team.
Lloris, even less to do then Szczesny. Only 2 attempts on target by the mighty arsenal in 96 mins of football.
Defence, handled the arsenal forwards easily, M.O.M display by Vertoengen, wont get many easier games.
Midfield. Scored the 2 goals that won the match, Bale and Lennon made the arsenal defence look like statues. Better then the invisible display by the allegedly world class player Wilshire.
Adebayor, well the less said about him the better, on that we can all agree.

Bale = goal, Lennon = goal, Sigs = assist, Parker = assist.
But yeah, well played Wilshere, “much better than any Spurs midfielder”
Hahaha, quality piece of comical writing.

Banter aside, I remember when ramsey was supposed to be the next big thing for Arsenal and people were saying things like that future Welsh squads should be built around him. Any reason why he appears to have not fulfilled his potential Arsenal fans.

“we deserved at least a point” followed by slagging off your manager – yeah that makes sense.
Excuse me mate but didn’t Spurs have ALL the meaningful chances and indeed scored yours too? I mean Bale missed an open goal and Siggy should have scored a 4th.
Arsenal had the ball a lot in non-threatening areas, that’s all.
The last time I looked you don’t get points for possession stats.

Both teams have a great history, albeit Arsenals is more successful yes. But no one really cares about any of that as much as the future. Today is today, and right now Spurs are the better team with the better players and with the far superior team spirit and togetherness. COYS FOYG
