Tottenham beat Arsenal 2-1 to move back up into third position in the league table and extend their lead over the Gunners to seven points. Here are player ratings from the game:

Tottenham Ratings

Hugo Loris: 8/10

Another superb display by the Frenchman. Didn’t have a lot to do in terms of shot-stopping and could do little about Mertesackers goal, but was always quick off his line to clear any danger and collected several crosses. Excellent handing when it mattered most.

Kyle Walker 7/10

Surging run from well inside his own half right into the heart of the Arsenal box was the highlight for him but the young full-back put in a steady shift.

Michael Dawson 8/10

Superb next to Vertonghen at the back. Dealt with the areal threat of Giroud and put in a real captains performance for the home side.

Jan Vertonghen 9/10

Faultless display from the Belgian. Made several key interceptions and vital tackles to keep the Gunners at bay. Also showed he can play with some excellent passing. MOTM

Benoit Assou-Ekotto 7.5/10

Kept Walcott quiet all game and also got forward on occasion to join the attack. Did his job well and set up Bale with an excellent cross in the second half but the Welshman blazed over.

Aaron Lennon 7.5/10

After a quiet start Lennon burst into life with the decisive second goal. After a well-timed run, he rounded Szczesny to tap home into an empty net. Lively display when he saw the ball.

Scott Parker 7/10

Struggled early on to deal with the Arsenal midfield and allowed the visitors control of the central areas for the most part, as Spurs looked to hit the Gunners on the break. But excellent through-ball for Lennon’s goal and worked tirelessly throughout.

Mousa Dembele 7/10

Like his partner, allowed Arsenal to dictate the midfield at times but was always busy before limping off with an ankle injury.

Gylfi Sigurdsson 7/10

Given a rare start and it worked for the most part. Sigurdsson saw plenty of the ball and set up the opener with a delicious through-ball.

Gareth Bale 8/10

Took his goal beautifully and was always a threat, as usual. Should have got a second but put his close-range effort over the bar in the second half.

Emmanuel Adebayor 6/10

Almost got himself sent off again for another rash tackle and lost out to Mertesacker for their goal. Worked hard but lacked a bit of quality at times. Forced off with injury.

Subs:

Jermain Defoe 6/10

Almost got himself on the scoresheet but dragged his shot wide from the edge of the box. Lively cameo after replacing Adebayor.

Arsenal Ratings

Wojciech Szczesny 5/10

Half-hearted attempt to stop Bale’s effort and made it easy for Lennon to round him after coming off his line too quickly. Made several unnecessary dashes out his box.

Carl Jenkinson 6.5/10

One of Arsenal’s better outfield players until going off. Put in a couple of excellent crosses but no real target to aim for.

Per Mertesacker 4/10

Played Bale onside for the opener and failed to cut out Parker’s through-ball for the second. Partnership with Vermaelen really isn’t working at all. Nice flick for his goal that went in via a deflection off Bale.

Thomas Vermaelen 4/10

Schoolboy defending for the second goal. He had no idea where Lennon was and allowed the winger to burst unchallenged into the box to score. Form is a real worry.

Nacho Monreal 6/10

Started the game well and was eager to get forward to join in the attacks, but lost Lennon for his goal.

Mikel Arteta 5/10

Tidy on the ball but offered his back-four little protection. Not suited to the defensive midfield role as he’s not mobile of physical enough.

Aaron Ramsey 5/10

Looked painfully short of pace at times and fluffed the big chance of the second half for Arsenal, dragging his shot wide when given time to shoot. Went missing to leave large gaps at the back when moved to right back.

Jack Wilshere 6/10

Excellent opening half hour but went missing when Arsenal fell behind just when they needed him the most. Below par second half display from the midfielder.

Santi Cazorla 7/10

Probably Arsenal’s best outfield player. Was dangerous on the ball and linked up well with Rosicky when he came on but was let down by his team mates at times.

Theo Walcott 4/10

Anonymous for the most part. Was well shackled by Ekotto and just couldn’t get in the game.

Olivier Giroud 4/10

Very poor. Failed to win his headers, lacked quality when he did see the ball on the deck and was too busy complaining and throwing his arms in the air all afternoon.

Subs

Tomas Rosicky 7/10

Decent cameo from the playmaker. Should have started ahead of Ramsey as the Gunners looked far more dangerous with Rosicky linking up with Wilshere and Cazorla.

Lukas Podolski 5/10

Fluffed a couple of half-chances to get the equaliser
