Arsenal Defender ‘Distraught’ After Undeserved Spurs Defeat

Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson has told Arsenal.com that he feels ‘distraught’ following the clubs 2-1 loss to Tottenham on Sunday and believes his side were unlucky to lose the game.

Jenkinson, a boyhood Arsenal fan, put in a solid display at right-back after filling in for the injured Bacary Sagna but the 21-year-old couldn’t stop the hosts scoring two quick-fire goals before half-time to take control of the game after the visitors had made a promising start.

Per Mertesacker pulled one back shortly after the break but Arsenal couldn’t force the equaliser and are now seven-points behind their rivals with 10 games to go and now face an up-hill battle to secure Champions League qualification next season, with Arsene Wenger’s side now relying on Tottenham and/or Chelsea to drop points in the run-in.

Jenkinson has now told the clubs official website that he’s been left distraught by the defeat and doesn’t feel Arsenal deserved to lose the game:

“I’m distraught, to be honest,” Jenkinson told Arsenal Player. “I don’t feel like we deserved to lose. We had chances and have the team and the ability to come here and win. It just didn’t happen.

“I think we had a good share of the game. There were times where we really had them on the back foot and they didn’t look threatening at all. I think we used the flanks well. We were getting wide and getting crosses in. It just wasn’t meant to be.

“I know the importance [of the derby]. In the history, we’ve always tended to come out on top and today it wasn’t our day. We beat them at home and they beat us at their place. But it’s really disappointing that we haven’t at least picked up a point.”

The Gunners now have two weeks off before their next game – Swansea away – meaning Tottenham and Chelsea have the chance to extend the gap even further this weekend, but Jenkinson says it’s now time to put the Spurs defeat behind them and concentrate on finishing the season well. He continued:

“There are 10 games left and there are plenty of points to play for,” he said. “I think in a couple of days time, we’ll get our head around this and realise that we’ve bridged a gap like that before and can do it again.

“We will be positive and we will come back from this. Tottenham are our rivals but we’ll get over it, we’ll be positive. We’ve just got to work our socks off because we need to be in that top four at the bare minimum.” Jenkinson told Arsenal.com

No they were not!! Tottenham created the better chance and should have scored at least 2 more!! If you have a defence that have no idea how to defend you will loose.

clearly the one you didn’t watch you mug, you’re defence is non existent, attack is crap, good job you’ve got a good midfield, you were lucky with the ‘own goal’ goal, balance of power is shifting muggy goon tosser.

Typical gooner not really seeing what is in front of him and clear enough to everyone else. When you can admit to yourselves that your team is in decline maybe then things will change but whilst you have a stubborn clueless manager and fans that love to hate and are nothing but negative you will as the saying goes “if you always do what I’ve always done you will always get what you’ve always got…Mug

I think Wenger must now leave the club because he doesn’t want to buy quality material

How can he think that! They didn’t test our goalie once and the goal they got was going away from the goal until Bale got his nut in the way!!

Arsenal had us on the back foot for half an hour. But I always felt we just needed one chance and so it proved. arsenal seemed to have a lot of possession without a clinical finish. They were a lot better than I expected, though, and the race is far from over with the two respective run-ins.

Haha Goon fans make me laugh. Very bitter. They are convinced that they were actually the better team. The bottom line is we didn’t ofer a lot in attack apt fromour goals other than a coupe of counter attacks. The same as Arsenal offered f*ck all in attack either. Lloris made one save smothering the ball and was a spectator for the rest. This one was a game of defences. Spurs’ were excellent, Ars*nals were comical. End of. Enoy your Thursday nights next season. COYS FOYG

Sorry Graeme..what was the score at the Emirates ummmm..thats it 5-2 yet again.
Before you start dreaming of finishing above us for the first time in seventeen years and winning the title for the first time in sixty years just remember the saying that bit your bum last year…”Mind the Gap”…enjoy your day, but just hold fire.
I thought you would have learnt your lesson!!!

what has the score at the Emirates to do with it – that was one game out of 38 – thats what the season consists of you ” just hold YOUR fire ” Bigmouth!

        March 4, 2013 at 4:52 pm

Yes it ws 5-2 at the Emirates where you took advantage of the man advantage after being outplayed beforehand. Just lie we took advantage of the 4 man advantage we had yesterday after AW deciding to start with no defenders.
I’m mor concerned about our progression rather than solely finising above Ars*nal. If we finish 3rd or 4th then it makes no odds to e where you finish in that scenario because we would have had a successful season. Our objectives are gradually becomming higher, gradually. Just like yours are declining.

10 years ago – aim to win the league

5 years ago – aim to get top 2-3 at least

2-3 years ago – aim to get top 4
        N
ow – aim to finish above Spurs

Next 5years – Aim to be in top half

          Your ambitions?

To win the any league for the first time in sixty years.

To win the premiership for the very first time.

To compete in the C.L. for the second time.

Try and finish above Arsenal for the first time in seventeen years.

Try and build a new stadium.

Try and get crowds of 60,00 plus every home game.

Sack a manager every so often to deflect the crap club you are.

Try to win more than one “double” a century.

Ensure your players get sent off so you have an excuse (Last years 5-2 was 11 versus 11 wasnt it).

Oh yes.. and once again mind that gap in case you fall arse over tit yet again.

Yes Sybrians we gooners love it.

Exactly, hank you for confirming everything I previously said. Our objectives are gradually becoming higher. (Looking prety likely to achieve some too).
And as I notice you didn’t have much to say about your objecives I pointed out I can only assme you agree (would have to be blind not too really though hey).
Like I said before, not interested in the thing you have achieved in the PAST that we haven’. It was ipressive I have to dmit, but I am more interested in what is happening now and will happen in the future.
Coome back if/when you have a good team again that isn’t out of it’s depth.

            We Spurs love it. COYS.

Oh, and having a 60,000 seater stadium is only impressive if you actually fill it. A lot of empty seats there lately.
Also, 60,000 just means that the boos ar even louder (from what I have heard recetly at least).

Enjoy the Europa next season, at least you might have a chance of winning that, you’ve ad more than enough chance for the CL, but ulike ManU Liv& Chels, you were not good enough to win it.

Good luck for the rest of the season Woolwich. North London always has been and always will be White.
