Injury-Plagued Midfielder Set For Summer Move

It looks like it’s going to be a disappointing end to Emmanuel Frimpong’s career at Arsenal as he’s set to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer.

Despite the transfer window now being closed there will still be plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Emmanuel Frimpong looks set to leave Arsenal.

It looks like it’s going to be a disappointing end to Emmanuel Frimpong’s career at Arsenal with the Mirror reporting that he’s set to leave the club and join Fulham on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The Ghana midfielder is already out on loan at Craven Cottage for the rest of the campaign but it seems he could make that move a permanent one in the summer with the report claiming he’s no longer part of Arsene Wenger’s long-term plans and will be free to leave north London in the summer.

Fulham boss Martin Jol confirmed that his interest in signing the 21-year-old on a permanent basis, saying:

“If there is an opportunity to take him, I would probably do it.” Jol is quoted as saying by the Mirror

Frimpong has been with Arsenal since he was nine years old and was once regarded as one of our most promising youngsters. However, his career has been hampered by two serious knee injuries. The first coming back in 2010 when he injured his anterior cruciate ligament in training and was forced to miss the next nine months.

He returned to action and was making good strides towards the first team during the first half of the 2011/12 season but his career took another backward step when he suffered another serious knee injury while away on loan with Wolves in January 2012.

Arsenal are crying out for an aggressive, athletic ball-winner in midfield so you’d like to think the likes of Frimpong should be coming back to make a real push for the first team in the summer. But it seems Wenger doesn’t think he’s got what it takes to make it at the Emirates and with only 16 first team appearances under his belt for us, it’s hard to argue.

It looks like injury may have ruined what once looked like a promising career for Frimpong at Arsenal, which is disappointing, but he’s got enough talent to go on and make a good career for himself elsewhere in the top flight.
