[OFFICIAL] Arsenal fans are torn over Arsene Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger

Written by Fab4.

After Arsene Wengers questionable performance in this summers transfer window Arsenal fans all over the world have been having their say, particularly about the fact Le Boss failed to sign a goalkeeper before the 6pm deadline.

I decided to run a poll over the past 2 days asking Gooners if they still had faith in Arsene Wengers judgement and the results were interesting. Only 52% of voters still had faith in Wenger, with 39% saying they no longer backed the boss feeling he was a stingy old fool! 9% were undecided. Think about that, 39% of Gooners don’t think Wenger is making the right calls anymore. It’s worrying.

Of course this poll was conducted just after the close of a relatively disappointing transfer window and their feelings may change throughout the course of the coming weeks, but it’s still interesting. Does this 39% account for the ‘fans’ who boo and moan at home games? Are they the unrealistic ‘championship manager’ who expect Messi, Kaka and Ronaldo to be signed every summer? We will never know.

I have already provided my personal opinion on Arsenal’s transfer activity and received some negative comments for my criticism of Wenger. Having had a couple of days to calm down and reflect, i will have my final say on the subject. I am still of the opinion that Wenger unnecessarily dithered in his pursuit of Schwarzer and if he really wanted him, he should have submitted the £4m bid in june and got the transfer done early doors.

But the situation is what it is…. not ideal. Would i prefer someone other than Almunia to be in goal? Most certainly, but i’m still an Arsenal fan and will support the players that walk out on the pitch every week. I also feel Arsene Wenger is still the man to take the club forward. No other manager could do what he has done and continues to do for the club. BUT, he did make a serious misjudgement by failing to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.

Erm…you can’t say that, it’s 39% of people who voted in your poll, not necessarily Gooner and then there are other issues such as double voting etc. You can’t extrapolate from an on-line poll to the whole Gooner population.

i still think Le Boss can do better, but buying GK was Obligation. i don”t think we can do better than last year with Almunia. unless Le Boss thinks to take one of the third or forth goalkeepers.

go out to any arsenal game and ask how much they support wenger. WE LOVE WENGER
Yes another goalkeeper would have been a great addition but it happens sometimes, it doesnt happen sometime
DID chelsea improve more than us? did united?
all the kids living all over the world might blast wenger but wenger has build an arsenal that is brilliant in the present and will only get better in the future
AGAIN WE LOVE WENGER AND I HOPE HE STAYS WITH US UNTIL HE RETIRES

    Again Arsene KNOWS

      RIGHT ON ANDREW

      He tried to buy Schwarzer
      he tried to sign Marchetti
      he tried to sign LLoris
      and city refused Given

and we still blast the Le Boss.

P.S He made a bid for Schwarzer in may so dont cry about him putting it too late
NO club wanted to sell before the WC and after it Hughes destroyed the whole deal

If we need one we will get one in January

also no DM which is a bad joke. Frimpong already out for the season and what is if Song injured? Great judgement Mr. WEnker!!! Hope you get really grilled at Q & A.

We have Johan. He is a capable DM, plus of Denilson and as a last resort Diaby. DM is fine.

I am very disappointed we didn’t sign a keeper, however, Arsene works wonders at our place. No other manager would have built the youth system, kept us as competitive as he has and been able to help fund the move to the grove. So for that reason he is still number 1.

For all our failings we had lots of big injuries last year, if we can cut them down and work harder as a team we can certainly add 15 points to our season total.

That is certainly title winning potential. I think we should calm down and wait till Jan. We will have both a clear indication as to how much Almunia is a liability and how who is available. Given will most likely hand in a transfer request should he not get near the team before Jan.

      COME ON THE GUNNERS

    • Who is this arsenal4ever?

Conducting the poll in the first place is a disgrace to the club & manager, I hope Arsene never saw this cause he doesnt deserve such a treatment.

What makes you think that in Poll organized in this webpage voted only Arsenal fans and not let say Spurs fans?

still the blind lemmings follow big talk wenger….he has failed us time & time again. he is an accountant not a manager!i dont expect to sign messi ect but u must sign quality..how many players have we sold without replacing?him & the board are starving the club. i dont care about recession .. how many games is the emerates empty? we have money, wenger told us so. how could he not sign a goalie?he is deluded..he spent all summer keeping fab (knowing that fab needs some proper ballers around him),then he keeps fabregas with a weaker team than last season. how must poor fab feel knowing if the opposition have a chance to shoot they will score.??? where is the ambition? all wenger does is buy more & more kids that will be sold before they make first team.. he is like THE PIED PIPER

    What kind of comments.

    The truth is,
He didn’t try to sign a GK at all.
From his initial talk about GK, we can understand he was not going for new GK.

The truth is he didn’t try to sign a GK at all?

Where did you get this from? All stories are he tried to sign a GK. What’s your evidence he didn’t? Real proof please, otherwise we might think you’re just making up silly stories for the sake of it.

The Professor having a Master degree in Economics and
being over 60 years old now, so may be some form of dementia has also set in.
That makes him confuse / forget his real duties as the head coach / manager which call for success on the pitch, (with that of the financial health of the club).
Therefore, we should lobby the board to make him the new Finance Director at the club effective June 2012, especially since no club will win anything with 2 clowns as keepers.
If we are out of the running by December, the board should be pressured to look for a new coach who knows how to win (a la red-nosed SAF or mercenary Mourinho).
Note: SAF is much older but less intellectually inclined like our Professor so dementia does not affect him.

“No other manager could do what he has done and is doing…” What the heck does that mean? I get so tired of hearing this myth that there is no other manager who could have done what Wenger has done, whatever that is. Utter tosh.

“I also feel Wenger is still the man to take the club forward.” Why??? He hasn’t taken the club forward for the last 5 seasons and this season our squad is weaker than last season. Wenger’s a CEO, a businessman pretending to be a football coach.

The truth is Arsene Wenger is the best manager we could have, full stop. Who else would you rather? Mark Hughes, Murinnho, Benitez?
Wenger is a brilliant manager but it doesn’t mean he can always have what he wants, no manager can.
Do you guys really think you know better? What makes you think that? You have no experience in running a big football club but you feel free to shovel abuse and cutting remarks on someone who is one of the best around football managers in history and that is the fact. So stop whinging, grow up and support your club or feck off somewhere else.

Well that certainly dont include any of the Arsenal fans I no, so how can you say 30% of gooners? Shouldnt it be phrased “39% of Gooners that voted.” So many fickle fans around in this day and age, highly annoying!!

Jason wake up!! So what if he put a bid in may. He bid 2 million in may which was turned down by fulham, he then went back in early august and bid 2 million again. The cheek of it, why would fulham change their mind snout the price. After that early august bid he made no more bids….. Waiting to last day then phoning up a buck of clubs to make offers is a joke, when do nan united or Chelsea do that? They find who want and sign them

Or maybe someone at who obviously knows the business better than wenger can do the transfers for him!!

@wombledin: u r clearly an ignorant idiot. Wenger might not have taken us much forward in the last 5 years but this current team is still 20 times better than the team we had in the 1980s. Lol. And if u say that this team we have now is not better than last year’s team, i have to admit i think u r some 7year old with no football knowledge. Wenger completely changed our defence and strengthened our attack. Just a new gk was not bought which is excusible. We had a good start and im looking forward to this new season.

listen use can cum up with every excuse under the sun the bottom line is mr wenger failed again and 2 add a bonus 2 that failer he failed at the most importand situation in the team which waz 2 bring in a goal keeper it waz the first thing 2 sort out and he left it 2 last and it failed…i only hope in jan he brings in a keeper and if he fails then again well i dont no 2 be honest but i tink mr wenger will see 4 the first time in his arsena carrer that no manager no matter how good they are or wat they have accieved at there club that they are not untouchable, this is the most importand and pressurerised season mr wengr will have at arsenal because if he fails this year 2 win silver he has 2 go and he will go it wud b 6 years now if he fails and quite simply thats just no good

By far, the easiest thing to do is to criticise….and doing so without facts is even worse….there a thing called strategy and when followed to he point can work wonders….if you have sya 40 million to spend in 2 transfer windows ,do you spend it all at once only to find out at the next window that 5 of your best players are injured …what now

  20. jay

    September 3, 2010 at 1:43 pm

bullshit he never intended to sign any gk that was all pr bs. you people seem to understimate how intelligent that old economist is, the whole time he talked about strengthening our defence he said cb were vital he went and signed two, he never said he would get another gk that was all leaked info that he never admitted to. He can do so much better but he is full of shit trying to play ceo. we are not gonna win anything with almunia in number 1. I DONT BLAME CESC FOR WANTINGTO LEAVE I WUD TOO IF I WAS HIM

There’s no doubt that Wenger is a great coach, but everybody has their weakness and Wenger’s weakness is his lack of aggressive decision making in the transfer market. All the fans have known for years that all we needed was to buy approx. 3 “World Class” ready made players and our team would have won something by now… but Wenger chooses to constantly buy players that he has to teach how to become better… I know, I know, but they will stiffle the growth of our up and coming players right? I think it will make those players have to be more hungry to improve, so they can have a place on the field. And once again all summer every single Arsenal fan in the entire world knew that our number 1 problem area was the Goal Keeper but Wenger didn’t fix that problem… and even his 1st choice, to fix the problem, was arguably not much better than what we have… so why not go out and buy a “Top Notch” goal keeper, defenders that we know 100% can come in and do the job… We coulda got Schwazer but we didn’t want to increase our offer by 2mil… the exact same way we lost out on Alonso a few years back, who imo would have helped us win a title by now, plus Cesc would have been happier with a fellow Spaniard in the team… but No! Wenger is still taking his extremely stubborn values and continueing his experiment… i do think we have tremendous quality to win the league, but lets be honest, none of us is totally secure because we can only hope that everybody on the team has a little more in them this year to step up another level… Good Luck Gooners!!! I really hope Wenger’s experiment pans out for us this year!!!!

alli can say is that almunia is an exceptional goalkeeper. BUT he has made costle errors that have robbed us victory and points. if we back him, it will kinda not put him under pressure and help him move on from that. think of the UCL home game against Barca. it could have been atleast 3-1 at half time(if nasri’s shot curled in) but he made saves that kept us in that game. so lets back arsenal and use what we’ve got now and win tittes

We now have two clowns at Arsenal – Almunia and Wenger. The only question now is : “When does the circus leave town. ” ?
    “In Arsene we rust.”
