Manchester City are set to go head-to-head with Chelsea in the race to sign Spanish starlet Isco from Malaga this summer, according to the Express.

Isco has become one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Europe over the last 18 months after some impressive display’s in La Liga and in Europe for Malaga since making the move from Valencia back in 2011.

However, the Andalusian outfit have severe financial worries to contend with and were forced to sell Santi Cazorla and Nacho Monreal to Arsenal this season and the Express claim they may have to cash-in on Isco this summer if a bid of £35m is put on the table.

The newspaper suggests Premier League duo Chelsea and City are among the interested clubs who are prepared to match that figure and the 20-year-old has recently admitted he would be happy to move on at the end of the season if it benefited both him and Malaga.

“If a club decides to come and sign me they’ll have to be a big club because it’d be a lot of money.

“Therefore, if it would help Malaga, I wouldn’t have a problem accepting a transfer, if it benefitted both of us.” Isco is quoted as saying by the Express

Isco has represented Spain at every youth level and won his first cap for the senior national side last month when he came on as a substitute in a 3-1 win over Uruguay. He followed the likes of Wayne Rooney and Lionel Messi in winning the ‘Golden Boy’ award last year and has scored an impressive 10 goals in his 31 appearances for Malaga so far this season, so Chelsea or City would be getting one hell of a player if they are able to lure him to England at the end of the season.
