Barcelona Midfielder To Make Surprise Move Back To Arsenal This Summer?

Cameroon midfielder Alex Song could be set for a shock move back to Arsenal just 12 months after leaving for Barcelona in a £15m deal, according to reports.

Despite the transfer window now being closed there will still be plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Alex Song is linked with a shock return to Arsenal.

Alex Song

Some interesting news regarding the future of Alex Song today with the Express suggesting the Cameroon midfielder could be set for a shock move back to Arsenal just 12 months after leaving for Barcelona.

Song moved to Arsenal in 2005 as a teenager from Bastia and after a difficult few years he eventually forced his way into Arsene Wenger’s first team plans in 2008. He remained our defensive midfielder for the next four seasons and ended up amassing over 200 appearances for the club.

He ended his sevenyear stint at the Emirates last summer when he sealed a ‘dream’ move to Spanish giants Barcelona in a reported £15m deal. However, his time in La Liga hasn’t gone according to plan and he’s (predictably) struggled to make an impact, making just three appearances since the turn of the year.

The Express are now claiming that the 25-year-old could be ready to cut-short his time in Spain at the end of the season and Arsene Wenger is understood to be considering a bid to bring his former midfielder back to north London for a second spell.

The newspaper suggests that Wenger sold Song due to his poor commitment and attitude during pre-season training last summer and that this may hinder any chance of a deal unless the player can persuade the boss he’s changed his ways.

We never replaced Song after he left, which is one of the main reasons I feel we’ve struggled this season, and while I’ve been calling for us to sign a defensive midfielder all season I really can’t see this report having any truth in it at all.

The way the Song sale came about, almost out of the blue, shows there was clearly a major issue between the boss and player so I can’t see any chance of him moving back to Arsenal, despite what the Express newspaper says.
