Chelsea Linked With £36m-Rated Bundesliga Hitman

European champions Chelsea are weighing up a bid for Bayern Munich and German international striker Mario Gomez at the end of the season, according to talkSPORT.

Despite the transfer window now being closed there will still be plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea are linked with Mario Gomez.

European champions Chelsea are weighing up a bid for Bayern Munich’s £36m-rated striker Mario Gomez at the end of the season, according to talkSPORT.

The report claims the Blues have finally lost patience with £50m flop Fernando Torres after the Spaniard has managed to score just 14 league goals since his big-money move from Liverpool over two years ago.

Chelsea signed Senegalese forward Demba Ba during the January transfer window to ease the goal-scoring burden on Torres but talkSPORT suggest owner Roman Abramovich is going to sanction the signing of a marquee striker this summer and Gomez is thought to be under serious consideration.

The 27-year-old has been a huge success at Bayern and has scored 102 goals in 159 games since making the move from Stuttgart in 2009, including an impressive 41-goal haul last season. However, the German international hitman has lost his first team place this campaign following the arrival of Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic and could be on the move this summer.

But while Chelsea are said to be interested in luring Gomez to Stamford Bridge, it doesn’t look like he’s going to come cheap with talkSPORT claiming Munich value him at £36m, so Abramovich is going to have to dig deep if he wants to bring the powerful forward to West London.
