Arsenal To Step Up Interest In Kenyan Enforcer

Arsenal are ready to reject the chance to re-sign Alex Song from Barcelona and push ahead with their interest in Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama this summer.

Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal step up their interest in Victor Wanyama.

Arsenal are set to reject the chance to re-sign Alex Song and push ahead with their interest in Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama this summer, according to the Metro.

Song was sold to the La Liga giants last summer but his time at the Nou Camp hasn’t quite gone according to plan as he’s struggled to break into the Catalans midfield and has made only a handful of league starts this season.

It seems the Cameroon midfielder may be ready to cut short his time in Spain with the Metro claiming he’s ‘desperate’ to return to the Emirates at the end of the season to get his career back on track.

A proper defensive midfielder is something I feel we’ve missed hugely this season and Arsene Wenger deserves criticism for not replacing Song after selling him to Barca last summer. However, it seems the boss is finally ready to fill the void this summer but sadly for Song, he’s not the man Arsene appears to have has his eye on.

Instead, the Metro suggest Wenger will resist the chance to re-sign Song in favour of Celtic’s Kenyan midfield enforcer Victor Wanyama, with the Scottish champions believed to have resigned themselves to losing the £10m-rated  21-year-old this summer after his impressive season north of the border.

I’m a big fan of Wanyama’s and would love to see us land him this summer. He’s big, powerful, and can play and he’s the type we’ve sorely missed this year. We need someone to ‘protect’ the likes of Wilshere and Cazorla and while Arteta is a fine footballer and great professional, he’s not the athletic ball-winner we need to shield the back-four.

But if we can’t get Wanyama, I don’t want to see Song return. He flattered to deceive during his time at Arsenal and his attitude stunk. We can do better than him in my opinion.
