Wenger Prepared To Smash Transfer Record For Serie A Striker
Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal to step up their interest in Stefan Jovetic.
Arsene Wenger is prepared to break Arsenal’s transfer record to land Fiorentina’ s £20m-rated striker Stefan Jovetic this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The report claims Wenger has been tracking the Montenegro international for 18 months and he’s now set to become our number one target this summer with the boss instructing his scouting network to make weekly checks on his progress ahead of a potential move at the end of the season.
However, Jovetic wont come cheap but the Mail claim Wenger is prepared to smash our transfer record – currently the £15m we paid to Zenit St Petersburg for Andrey Arshavin – to sign the talented forward, with Fiorentina understood to value the 23-year-old in excess of £20m.
This all sounds great but it seems any potential move will hinge on Arsenal qualifying for the Champions League next season with the newspaper claiming Arsene’s £70m budget will be cut if we fail to finish in the top-four, while Jovetic is also unlikely to come to the Emirates without the prospect of playing in Europe’s premier competition.

I must admit I’m a huge fan of Jovetic’s and I’d love to see Arsenal sign him this summer. He’d fit well into our system and provide us with another excellent option up front. While his goal-scoring record is far from jaw-dropping at Fiorentina, with 34 goals in 108 Serie A appearances, his all-round game is far superior to the likes of Olivier Giroud and I could see him being a huge success in north London.
