Some interesting news coming from the Express as they report that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is seriously considering activating a £4m buy-back clause in Carlos Vela’s contract this summer.

Vela joined Arsenal in 2005 as one of the most highly-rated youngsters in South American after scooping the Golden Boot at the U-17 World Cup and he was once heralded as the next ‘big thing’ by many Gooners.

Despite moments of brilliance and a few eye-catching goals, mainly in the Carling Cup it has to be said, Vela was never really given a proper run in the first team and was sent out on loan four times during his seven years in north London.

The boss finally decided to sell him to Real Sociedad last summer and we all thought that would be the last we ever saw of the inconsistent Mexican.

However, could he be set for a surprise return to Arsenal? Vela has been a different player in Spain this year and his impressive displays have helped Sociedad become the surprise package in La Liga with them currently sitting fourth in the table and on course to qualify for the Champions League next season.

It seems his return to form has alerted Arsene Wenger with the Express claiming the boss is considering activating a £4m buy-back clause that was inserted into the players contract when he was sold last summer.

This would be an interesting move if Arsene decided to go ahead with it. I was always a fan of Vela’s but never really thought he was suited to the ruff and tumble of Premiership football. Maybe he’s toughened up in Spain and matured a bit, but he never really liked to do the dirty work that’s required at the top level.

Even if we did activate the clause, would the 24-year-old agree to return to the place he failed to make the grade? I’m not convinced he would. He seems settled in Spain and it would be a huge gamble to come back to Arsenal where he wouldn’t be guaranteed first team football.
