Transfer News: £16.5m-Rated Defender Heading To London This Summer?
Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea and Tottenham are linked with a move for Luke Shaw.
Shaw has impressed hugely in his debut season in the Premier League, starting in 20 of Southampton’s 29 league games as the South Coast club battle to maintain their top flight status for another year.
It seems he’s done enough to impress some of the clubs in the upper echelons of the table with the Metro claiming Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham have been keeping a close eye on the 17-year-old’s progress with the Gunners thought to have been the early front-runners for his signature.
However, the report suggests that the Blues and Spurs are looking to trump their London rivals and are expected to submit bids this summer with Southampton thought to value the 17-year-old at around £16.5m.
The Saint’s are likely to do all they can to keep hold of the exciting youngster – who signed a new long-term contract in January – but they may find it difficult to stop him making a move to London if the big-boys come calling.
Arsenal and Spurs have signed Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale from Southampton in the past and turned them into established international players, so may look to use those examples to persuade Shaw to move to north London. However, Chelsea may be confident of luring the Surrey-born youngster to Stamford Bridge safe in the knowledge he grew up in Kingston-upon-Thames which is just a short trip from the Blues training ground.
