Ferguson Targets Chelsea’s Record 95 Point Total

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has set his sights on breaking Chelsea’s record 95 points total when reclaiming the Premier League title this season.

Manchester United are sitting comfortably atop the Premier League on 74 points with an unassailable 15 points advantage over their ‘noisy neighbours.’

However, winning the title won’t be enough for Sir Alex Ferguson it seems, as the Manchester United manager wants to go a step further and surpass the 95 point record held by Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea in the 2004-2005 season.

United take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday lunchtime and Ferguson concedes that he doesn’t expect his side to win all of their remaining games as he feels points will be lost along the way, but he would love to challenge Chelsea’s record 95 point total.

“There’s nine games left, so a possible 27 points,” Ferguson told Mirror reporters.

“We’ll drop points somewhere along the line, I mean we’ve got to, it’s a tough league, but all the rest will drop points too.

“The record is 95 points by Chelsea, who beat us one year, we had 92 points one season. If we can get to 95 points I’ll be absolutely delighted.”

Manchester United’s personal best tally is 92 points, and it’s feasible this can be achieved. However, to re-write the record books and score 96 points, United can only afford to drop a miserly 5 points. With games against Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal yet to be played breaking the record won’t come easy.

Manchester United’s remaining league fixtures:

Sunderland – Away
Manchester City – Home
Stoke – Away
West Ham – Away
Aston Villa – Home
Arsenal – Away
Chelsea – Home
Swansea – Home
West Brom – Away
