Manchester United welcome fierce rivals Manchester City to Old Trafford on Monday night looking to go one step closer to securing the Premier League title this season.

Ahead of the game, manager Sir Alex Ferguson has given ManUtd.com a team news and injury update with the latest on Wayne Rooney, Rafael Da Silva, Jonny Evans, Nemanja Vidic and Robin Van Persie.

The good news is that Rooney and Rafael were both back in full training on Thursday morning and could now feature against City on Monday.  The duo both missed last Monday’s 1-0 FA Cup quarter final replay defeat to Chelsea but with four days until the clash with City, the pair have plenty of time to work on their fitness ahead of the game.

However, defenders Evans and Vidic, who also sat out the Stamford Bridge clash, are not yet able to return to training but Ferguson is hopeful they may be back on Friday or Saturday at the latest.

Striker van Persie is going through something of a dry-spell in front of goal recently having only managed 1 strike in his last 12 games, resulting in suggestions the Dutchman may be running out of steam. But Fergie has hit back at those claims insisting his striker doesn’t need a rest. Here is what the boss told the clubs official website:

“Wayne and Rafa have started training this morning,” stated Sir Alex. “Which is good news.

“Hopefully, they will be fine by Monday. Jonny Evans and Nemanja Vidic are not there yet but, hopefully, they will start training maybe tomorrow or Saturday morning. We have a little bit of time on our hands to get most of the troops ready for the game.”

“Robin doesn’t need a rest, that’s for sure,” insisted Sir Alex. “He’s a strong lad with a great physique.”

If United beat second-placed City they will go 18-points clear with just 7 games and a possible 21 points remaining, so they could all but secure their 20th league title on Monday.

Now we’ve seen the team news, what would be your starting line-up for the City game? Leave your suggestions in the comments section below.
